Is it normal to want mcdonald's to stop giving out toys?

I think it's high time McDonald's stopped giving out toys in Happy Meals.

This is what they should do:

1. Stop making toys that are total crap, that are just hunks of plastic that have no value and are hazardous to the environment. The toys they offer should be of some use, purpose and/or value.

2. They could "offer" toys, but not give them away. Charge 25 or 50 cents additional to those who choose to buy the toy. This would significantly reduce waste.

3. The toys should be made of environmentally safe materials and produced in an environmentally friendly manner.

4. If none of the above suggestions would be adopted, couldn't they at least ASK each Happy Meal customer if they want the toy? I'd like to see them give the customer an opportunity to decline the toy. Most customers don't think to decline the toy on their own so a prompt would be helpful.

I don't agree with forcing a business to conform to all of this by law however I think as consumers we have the ability to effect change. I know this isn't the world's biggest problem but it gets on my nerves a lot!

Every town and city should start community collection bins for unwanted McDonald's toys. Once they have a big enough load, a bunch of anonymous volunteer ninjas should haul the piles of shit to their local McDonald's in the middle of the night and deposit it all over their parking lots.

Stop giving out them durn toys and start giving out cigarettes.

The original happy meal was a hambuger sandwich, a cup of black coffee and a cigarette.

The closest they ever come to give out a toy in my day was a pack of matches.

Or you could just stop eating that gross shit.

If you don't like the toys move to San Francisco, they have banned them there.

    • I personally don't go there. In a perfect world, McDonald's wouldn't exist. However since McDonald's does exist and isn't going away anytime soon, realistically I think we can only hope to mitigate the damage.

In SF they charge 10 cents for the toy, they were prohibited from giving it away free in high-calorie meals. I don't agree with nanny state laws however in this case the target consumers are children. And the offender is McDonald's. Fuck McDonald's. But no, I have to stick by my principles and say the ban is wrong. The parents should be responsible for their children's health, it's not McDonald's fault they are obese or unhealthy just because they slip a toy in the meal.

Urgh, I completely agree. McDonald's is just awful. I'd only eat there if the alternative was starving, and even then I'd only be able force myself to have a salad (although the salads are just as unhealthy as the rest of the crap they dish up anyway). The way they use the all toys and the clown and all that rubbish to try and appeal to kids is just evil.

Yep, I couldn't agree more, as per usual.:) If you want a healthy, well balanced meal you should give Burger King a go.:P

WTF? Why are you all attacking the kids? They aren't the ones driving to McDonald's. Kids should have a balanced home cooked meals. Not dome fatty, nasty shit. But here's what McDonald's did, since you lazy fucks of parents are gonna make your kid sit in the back seat while your out of shape as is running errands and eating unhealthy, making them eat unhealthy also, we'll give them something that'll make them just a little happier.

Does that mean all toy stores should be shut down as well. Plenty of my toys were thrown away or ended at the bottom of the box as well thanks to New toys coming out and me being a fucking kid.

If you cannot tell your child no without him/her flipping the FUCK out then you are currently failing as a parent and that child will grow up with more problems than obesity and a love for cheap toys.

What's the point of charging for the toys? He's still being force fed that shitty meal, but now mom and dad feels he doesn't deserve compensation for their lack of love for making eat that shit.

Why do you hate kids? You must because you're only taking away from them. You were obviously a kid as well, so how can you hate something that you were?

I think about this, too. Most of the toys are wasteful, plastic pieces of shit that the kid might get a whole 10 seconds of play time out of before throwing it in some random toybox until it gets dumped into the trash during some spring cleaning kick 5 years later. I think about this when I see those stupid little pop gun toys at the gas station or those dumb-ass party favors in 20 count packages at Wal Mart.

I know where that shit goes. I was a kid once too. It goes into a toybox or to the bottom of a closet or under a bed until it's thrown away. I hope that if I ever have kids, I have the sense to select their toys carefully and teach them that what they have is good enough.

I agree with you, OP. I wish they'd just stop with the toys alltogether but making them a by-request for charge item may be more beneficial and realistic.

Toys are toys. expensive or cheap when he/she is done, they will be at the bottom. If you're going to make your child eat that horrible shit then you should appreciate the fact that McDonald's decides to give them something to be a little happier about.

I don't have kid and if I did, I wouldn't make them eat that shit. I'm not saying never buy kids toys but do they really need 7 toy cars from a fast food joint?

don't go there, then. Simple. Be a parent. You don't want them to have 7fast food restaurant toys, don't get them. Don't even go.It's not the store's fault that there are sucky parents. this is a company that feeds people who believe they have no time to eat healthier, why are they wrong for also being nice to kids. How dumb can we get to be mad at someone giving our kids free toys?

Get a grip, lass! I ate McDonalds when I was a kid (sometimes up to 5 times a week!) and my Mom works there. I am not anti-McDonalds but I will tell you, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that those toys brought me little to no happiness and ended up in the trash. They are plastic waste! Pure and simple! The toys I purchased from the toy store? I played with them! They actually got use! Not the shit that I inevitably had to throw away, sometimes without even unwrapping it, from the Micky-Dees! And no, I 8, I did not have any conception of recycling or the environment. The only person here getting mad is you!

You're preaching to the choir, children should not be fed that shit. However, I am not mad at anyone. I just think that this toys they give out are and inevitably become, plastic waste in the trash. We don't need that shit and kids really don't care most of the time. It is not the responsibility of a fast food restaurant to ensure your children's happiness. I'm not saying that shit should be banned outright, but I don't think that it should be encouraged, so calm yo tits!

We have a problem with them "encouraging" because we watch tv where they actually pay to advertise. You have to view a lot of something to be tired of it. Try NOT watching so much tv. My son is outside more often than not, so his interests relate to such. Therefor, I guess, I don't see them advertising to me who doesn't care, or my child, who only seldom cares. They don't market to kids, they market to people Walmart is successful for the same reasons "If they are going to bring their kids, then get shit that kids want" Do you see adult stores with kiddy toys? No. Because we don't take kids there. Yes, the company aims for money, however, it began with the idea of one person. It graduated to today's vision because we told them what we are willing to do (i.e. bring our kids to make them fat and happy) Don't want to, stop going, stop your friends, but don't blame McDonald's. AND my mom worked and still, for some

Angry that again, even online, people never think things through. Why attack kids. I would agree with EVERYTHING if kids had real power. It's on the parents. You think they should stop because YOU didn't like the toys so you threw them away or left them on the ground? Why did your parents 2. NOT get the toy you didn't want 2. Teach you to appreciate things, cheap, expensive free, anything as a young person. Not just with this, but anything? 3. Why didn't they recycle, and/or teach you to. All the aspects of good parenting. McDonald's did their job, families have to do theirs.

Read the reply I gave the poll creator..hopefully, you'll also see my side.

          • They aren't "being nice to kids". They're not giving out toys out of the kindness of their heart! It's a marketing ploy. Their ONLY reason for doing this is to make money! They don't care that this plastic SHIT is polluting the earth.

The few cents they spend on the toy brings in a huge return for them. It works, it's a great marketing ploy but the side-effects of it are horrible.

All toys are thrown away. because you did it more often than Jerry down the street doesn't make your feelings more important on the subject. You obviously were able to get the REAL barbies some weren't Even if that's not the case, financial status, some kids, my son plays with EVERY LAST TOY he's ever had. He's4 now and still enjoys his 1 yr old toys if I haven't thrown it away myself

Point; you're still only attacking the kids. let's pretend they served very healthy and great tasting food, you're still only taking away from them because YOU don't want it anymore.

It's not little Angela's fault that tour parents didn't listen and gave you a boy's toy when you wanted the girl's toy and/or visa versa. Maybe her parents listen better. Maybe

They are awful. Crappy little things that even the kids only like for around 30 minutes, and then they are just another hunk of chemical filled plastic to get stuck in a landfill somewhere. Yay.

#2 actually makes a lot of sense.

I don't quite agree with the idea that they shouldn't be allowed to give toys with meals because of obesity. I've just never heard a good rationale for it. That doesn't mean there isn't one, but it doesn't really make sense to me.

But it *is* true that a lot of those toys end up in the trash. I've known kids (albeit not that many) who don't care about those toys or want them to begin with. It would also allow parents to make a policy or not buying those toys if they don't want them around.
