Is it normal to want labiaplasty?

You've probably never heard of labiaplasty. It is a cosmetic vaginal surgery to reduce labia. I have what some call "a roast beef vagina." NO, it is not caused by having sex with too many people. My vagina has been "roast beefy" since I can remember, and I've only had two sexual partners. It is very hard to deal with. I feel awkward in yoga pants and thongs, I am not able to exercise without being uncomfortable, and sometimes it makes sex difficult. I am so embarrassed and I feel ashamed to admit I am not like other women "down there." I'm 18 years old and I have considered this surgery since I was 15. I have not mentioned it to my parents yet. I am not really sure how to go about brining it up. Has anyone ever had this surgery? Was it worth it?

I'm a guy, but have a fair amount of expertise in female sexual health. If your labia (I'm assuming minora) are really getting in the way to the point of frequently causing pain and inhibiting normal activities, you may be a good candidate for labiaplasty. First, do lots of online research to get well informed about it (there are several variations of labiaplasty). Then find a GOOD, EXPERIENCED surgeon with lots of references (check them) and before/after pics of his/her surgery. A skilled surgeon may cost a bit more, but labiaplasty can be botched and that would just make your situation worse.

Since you're 18, you could go to the reputable surgeon you select for a free consultation before talking to your folks. That way you'll come off as well-informed and able to answer your folk's questions when you do talk to them. BTW, labiaplasty is covered by some insurance if it is needed to relieve pain or allow normal function. When you talk to your folks, consider going to your Mom first since she's most likely to understand the issue. Your Dad might be freaked out by this, at first.

I watched that procedure online. It looked like they cut of two bacon strips.

Have you ever considered there's actually nothing wrong with your vagina? And that whatever you have down there is beautiful just how it is?
