Is it normal to want a friendship with an old public school teacher?

So like every kid that lives in the small town that they went to school in, they see their teachers around town some of the time. I see one of my Grade 5 teachers at least a couple times a year. He's a really nice guy. Married with a kid but I have a serious boyfriend so I'm not looking for that type of thing. I always click with older people than people my age.

His wife brought his computer in to my work and I fixed it for him. He was so grateful that I got a thank you hug and we talked & reminisced about school and had some laughs and honestly it made a bad day good. I just wish I could say to him that I'd like to be friends, but with the ex student/teacher relationship, despite it being 14 years ago, it's weird. Is there any way to make it not weird?
