Is it normal to waken a teenager like this?

I am totally and utterly fed up trying to get my teenager out of bed in the mornings so have come up with this idea. Tell me what you think.

I have just ordered a wireless door bell so that if I am downstairs I can ring the bell in his bedroom - continuously if necessary. His alarm doesn't get him up, nor does shouting - so this fitted high above his wardrobes might.

I know it's normal behaviour for a teenager but do you think I am normal (or just cruel) finding my own little 'alarm' system?

I was responsible for waking up my brother when we were teens. He would turn off his alarm and go back to sleep. I had to wake him six or seven times before he would get up. Finally I got tired of it, so after his alarm went off I would dump ice water on him. After a week all I had to do was open the door and he would jump out of bed like a bat out of hell shouting "I'm up, I'm up!"

Not cruel at all, unless you want him to get up at 6 o'clock or something unreasonable like that. To be honest, I'm a teenager and I've never had trouble getting up in the morning. It is all about not letting him fall into a routine of staying in bed. I get up at 7:15 every weekday and 9:00 every weekend, and that is a more than reasonable time.

I sleep at 12 midnight, wake up at 4, get ready in an hour and wait for my sibling to wake up at 5. At 6, I go to school and the school takes 7-8 hours to finish, during those hours there would be half an hour break for recess and half an hour break for prayer session. I used to have a huge trauma and stress if I sleep later then usual.

I'm guessing you're the mom, no dad would have any trouble with his conscience over something like that.

    I don't think you're cruel at all.
I'd just walk in with a small glass of ice water for his sleep little head every morning until he gets fed up & would much rather get his own ass out of bed without the chilly drenching I've been providing.

Depends why he needs to be up. If he'll be late for school and what not, than sure why not? It might make him pissy though...

Nope, your just fulfilling your legal parental obligation to have your child attend school so Uncle Sam has a piece of your son. Maybe if it were up to You you prefer to have your "baby" at home cleaning the house and doing the cooking but unfortunately Uncle Sam by proxy of school wants to educate or brainwash your son. Ring the buzzer or face a legal infraction consequence.

What my dad did to me a couple of times was spray me with water when he gets pissed at me for not waking up.

I mean here in America it could be considered "child abuse," because Americans are a little sensitive (no offense to my fellow Americans,) but where I'm from it's completely acceptable.

If it's not considered abuse, warn him the night before and tell him if he were to not wake up on time (or a longer stretch) then you'd spray him, and that he would do the cleaning up.

He might hate you if he's not so mature. If he's mature he'd accept responsibility.

I hope I didn't offend you talking about your child that way, I don't mean any disrespect. I was a lot like that, until I learned the hard way.

she yells three times after which he doesn't get up, after that she gets into the room, steals his blanket, turn on the lights and opens the windows. if he doesn't get up after that, she gets a cold, wet towel and rubs his face and his belly :D
works everytime, and, lucky her, i wake up, too.

Lol, that's quite a routine. When I was a kid my dad used to poor cold water on my brother's face. He was sure awake after that.

it became a routine after gentle waking up rituals didn't work anymore :D
my father did it with me.
            once.
because after that i used to get ice packs from the fridge and stick them in the middle of the night under his blanket like 3 or 4 times, and when he woke up in the morning he was freezing like hell :D
