Is it normal to wake up in pain?

so i have had a couple of dreams where i get shot in the kneecaps by a sawn off shotgun (too much LA Noire or whatever) and i suddenly wake up and my legs hurt. its not as if i have actually been shot, just a kind of wierd ache but in exactly the same place. happened to anyone else?
btw this is not a question about why i have fucked up dreams. :)

  • Maybe you were having pains in your kneecaps and thats what made you dream about being hurt in the kneecaps? just like when you slightly choke someone while they are asleep they will react but will still be asleep and usually have a dream that something was happening to their throat.

I sometimes wake up with physical feelings reminiscent of a dream. I think it's the mind that takes the physical into the dream or the dream to the physical not sure which.

The concept as been approach in the movie "The Matrix"

On a similar note but a bit different: I remember a dream where I was falling and falling for quite some time and, when I hit the bottom, I woke up on the floor. If the fall in my dream happened at exactly the same time as the fall from my bed, it's amazing to see how time is different between dream and reality. I mean, I was falling for like 2 minutes.

I think Tisgranum makes a very good point about a dream incorporating actual physical pain rather than causing it :)
I'm quite a heavy sleeper and when there's sounds around me that could potentially wake me up, my mind sometimes appropriates them turning them into stuff that would make sense in my dream world. It's only when they become too loud or persistent that my brain registers their real nature and I wake up form them
