Is it normal to wake up gradually?

I've seen posts on here from ppl saying they feel disoriented when waking up, not knowing what time of day it is or where they are. And it seems fairly normal to experience that.
I'm quite a heavy sleeper anyway, but I sometimes don't even know what, let alone who I am upon waking. First thing, I notice myself breathing and become aware that I'm a living being. My body is rested from sleeping and I experience an amazing sense of well-being. It is quite blissful not remembering anything, while being sort of conscious. Is that what some call a state of pure being? Then the memories come flooding in: what I am, who I am, what I need to do next, my usual preoccupations until my awareness is fully restored. Is that what someone coming out of a coma would experience or IIN?

  • This is me every day. I woke up once and just started walking down the hallway looking for "something" then I realized it wasn't there...

I remember when I was a young boy, my aunt got us mc Donalds and I was so tired so I took a nap. When I woke up I thought it was morning so I ate waffles. Lol that has like nothing to do with this but whatever

I feel this way about 90% of the time. Life just kind of falls away for a brief moment and it is just like what I imagine bliss to be. The first thing that usually strikes me though is the person in bed beside me. Sometimes it takes me almost twenty seconds to remember who he is and even after that I don't believe he's real at times! It usually goes away fairly quickly though. Also, for me it can turn into a panic attack because I know I've forgotten a lot of things and it scares me!

Yes. I'd be more worried if I got up like a bolt of lightning every day. Waking up gradually is healthy and normal.

I wish I woke up like that. I'm 90% awake even when I'm asleep.

I sometimes feel that sense of bliss and the gradual awareness of your body return when I come out of a meditative state. Sadly I need an alarm to wake in the morning and that usually pulls me out of slumberland too fast to experience that peaceful sense of being before your body realizes it.
