Is it normal to visibly bring foods and water to a hotel?

To appear at the check in with 4 gallons of water and/or packs of food from the grocery store at a hotel which has its own restaurants. Cinemas don't like 'outside' food and drink, but how about hotels?

    NOthing ab about it.

I would do it just for peoples reactions. Come in with the full grocery cart from the store. Struggle at the door for at least 5mins and then drop things while asking them if they like Raisin Bran Crunch more than Apple Jacks.

I would die laughing on the inside trying to keep a straight face...

i do the same thing. they already overcharge you for a room so why pay 3 times as much for their food and drinks too.

When I was younger, my family would go on this trips and usually get room that were like apartments. Then after cleaning all of the utensils we would go out and buy shiploads of food. Once, I went to the catskills with my family and this guy was hired to drive us up. My family insisted that we'd bring groceries along with coolers. It was pointless, because we didn't need all of that food. We didn't eat most of it and at the end it was either thrown out or left their for the workers.

It's not mandatory that you eat there, and a lot of people stay for extended periods so it's not economical to eat at restaurants the whole time. Also people who have their whole family there with them, eating out is expensive!! The hotel doesn't care...of course they'd LIKE you to eat there but that's just the icing on the cake for them if you do, they've made their money on your room price.

Think about it this way....why would they provide mini-fridges and microwaves if they didn't want you to bring food in??

They also know you're probably on vacation or new to town anyway so they'd expect a lot of people to go to other restaurants as part of their stay in a new place. Also people who don't necessarily eat at the hotel may very well go to the bar/lounge and that's where the bigger money is made anyway.
