Is it normal to use fluoride-free toothpaste?

My stupid sister uses fluoride-free tooth paste. I tell her her teeth are going to rot out but she always says something dumb like, "there is fluoride in the water anyway so I don't want it in my tooth paste". Is that a normal thing to use?

Fluoride has nonproven benefits to your teeth. Why does every fluoride toothpaste say not to swallow it? Fluoride is nothing but chemical waste. I use non fluoride toothpaste and it's a lot better than than regular fluoridated paste.

  • Fluoride is not neccessary at all. I am a dentist and actually advise all my patients to use Fluoride free paste. Also most of the Fluoride toothpaste is tested on animals, choose cruelty free. www.choosecrueltyfree.org.au

Flax is right. My wife and I use fluoride free toothpaste too because we know it is dangerous, poisonous and has no proven benefits. Furthermore it can have bad effects on your brain. Fluorinated water is not good for you either and fluorinating it again has no proven benefits (especially in this case). For this reason we actually have a water filter that filters it out. And both of us have very healthy teeth by the way.

I think that the fluoride can protect your teeth from becoming demineralized, but at the same time, once it`s on the teeth, it`s harder for them to remineralize. If your mouth is clean, and there is saliva flowing, I think most people`s teeth will remineralize and remain strong on their own. I use fluoride free too.
