Is it normal to try to be in control of my friends?

the title may give you the idea of me controlling their lives but what I really mean is that I like to tell my friends what they're doing wrong and tell them what they should do about it. i also try to do that to myself so I dont be a hypocrite... and because I tell my friends that, they think I'm mad at everyone telling to change or something like that. I don't really think I'm doing something wrong and I just want to be truthful and make them better and likable people when they meet other people. but some friends seem to be bothered by that and I stopped telling those stuff. is it normal to tell them those stuff?

My ex bf used to give advice to all his friends and get pissed when they didn't listen because he was just trying to help. True he had good advice but if people don't listen it is deeper than they don't know what to do ...they must have other issues. So basically don't take it personally if they don't listen.

I generally agree with the first two replies only.

@TyLee, actually you're right too, but again this is about tact. People are very sensitive at times (could be something happening in their life, could be the 'issue' itself, who knows) but sometimes its better to not give advice unless ASKED for it.

Note: I understand the irony of you not actually asking here, but it will be interesting if you reply.

Control is often an illusion. You can "control" these people because they are allowing you to do so. Or are you giving them useful advice? There is a big difference.

  • Just because you have an opinion doesn't necessarily mean you should always voice it. Learn some tact and you'll notice that people will enjoy being around you more. ;)
