Is it normal to throw your used toilet paper in the trash

Spent a semester in Ecuador, and this was the norm due to 3rd world plumbing. I didnt learn it for the first month. Imagine our cleaning lady's surprise when said Gringo didn't seem to poop for 4 weeks!

When I went to Vienna, Austria they put it in the waste bin. But it was pretty disgusting especially in public toilets with no bin cover.

As others have said, it depends on the plumbing, but in first-world countries it's fine to flush and won't clog the system (unless there's some other underlying problem). Does your friend come from somewhere that doesn't have modern plumbing? That might explain it.

Just use the bottom of the back of your shirt and tuck it in when you are done or just don't wipe.

This is only normal in developing nations (formerly known as third world countries.) Bottom line, if you have a toilet, flush your shit and your shit-paper down the drain. Otherwise, when in Rome...

Toilet paper is designed to decompose quickly in septic tanks. I don't see the point in any other form of disposal for it. I have friends who use baskets but... I can't imagine cleaning and emptying them or going to the toilet after that basket has been sitting around for a while.

You can clog the toilet if you flush your toilet paper. I only flushed my toilet paper when I was at college or at places outside the home because these places have big sewage sysmes and toilets that can handle toilet paper being flushed. However at home you should throw your toilet paper in the trash because flushing it will eventually clog the toilet and cause it to damage

ewwww im getting flash backs from my old job working for an older couple and their fully grown son, the would never flush their toliet paper and just throw it around the bathroom with great big shit streaks on it and expect me to clean it up!!! It was nasty i know my bf seems to throw a lot of toilet paper in the bin beside the toliet too but i only think its for when he pees, yeah he says its not good for the septic and so did the old couple ( i guess they all must of had septic issues in the past which im sure was very unpleasant) still its a pretty gross not flushing shitty paper in my oppionion

I do that sometimes when the toilet is clogged.

In asia and a lot of Europe they throw it in the bin.
