Is it normal to throw away most of your artistic creations?

I'm a musician. (a saxophone player specifically) I often try to write music, lyrics, and poetry. I feel a deep longing to create and express myself. When I actually sit down and do it, I always end up getting nervous and throwing away/deleting everything I make. Does anyone else experience this?

Don't EVER throw anything creative away. We would all probably love to see all of your stuff. Having anyone create anything original now days is rare and very wonderful.

YES! I do that too! :( It's awful.

I am not a musician but I draw, paint, write, and do other types of art. Sometimes I do it out of impulse or out of fear and embarrassment...other times I throw it away because I am unsatisfied with it. It's sad...I don't believe a person should throw away their artwork.

But I relate. I don't understand it either though.

I've loved to draw for as far back as I can remember, and I've probably created thousands of pictures over the years in various states of completion. But I always throw everything I draw away because I never feel like anything I draw is "good enough".

John Lennon was deathly scared of his own voice throughout his entire career. During his solo career, he shrouded his vocals in layers of effects because hated it.

Let's say that one day you perform in front of a lot of people, the people viewing you and listening to you are in a position that would likely respond with ''Wow, I wish I could do that.'' What I'm getting at, is if you express yourself and be confident about it, no one will criticize you for going out there and expressing yourself. It's all about confidence and conviction of your expressions.

I write and compose music often too. It can be frustrating or nerve wracking in the right mindset I guess. Normal.

I think you should try to find out what's making you nervous, like, really think about it. Are you afraid to create something that someone might not like?
