Is it normal to think your reflection really isn't what you look like?

I often wonder if my reflection in the mirror is what I really look like. When I see pictures of myself I think I look COMPLETELY different than when I look at myself in a mirror. I could stand in front of a mirror, take a picture, and the picture will look nothing like my reflection. I also wonder how I look to others. Is it how I see myself in a mirror, or how I see myself in photos?

Yessss...I was actually just thinking this the other night. I like how I look in the mirror, but I think I look ugly in most pictures. So I don't know if I'm ugly or what :/

Mirror image is reveresed as opposed to photographs and what other people see. As in right is left and vice versa. Studies have shown that people prefer familiar versions of a face. If a person is shown a mirror image picture and a normal picture they will prefer the mirror image one. If a person is shown a mirror image and normal picture of their friend, they prefer the normal one because that is wat they normally see. People tend to think they are better looking in mirror directly than in a picture because they automatically adjust things - turn their head slightly to one side, or stand up straighter or whatever helps when they look in the mirror.

Actually unless you have a perfect symetrical face then the reflection you see in the mirror is not how other people see you, get a friend to stand in front of the mirror and look at their reflection, then look at their actual face, it might be like looking at two different people.

I think I look quite pretty when I pose infront of the mirror, but whenever someone takes a photo of me I look HORRIFIC! :(

Bleh, maybe I could get someone to wire a camera into the inside of my mirror to take a picture of me there.

When you're looking in a mirror, you're generally face-on. The "face-on" version is just one version of you. Pictures are taken from many angles. I guess the way you look in a picture is closest to the truth.

this is normal,;most regular common mirrors do not show a true actual reflection of the image. this is why a lot of ppl think they're pictures look nothing like them. it's bc we're so used to seeing a distorted imagine of ourselves

The reason why we find ourselves more attractive in a mirror than let's say, a picture, is because familiarity causes more likeability. The more we see something, more exposed, the more we tend to grow fond of. Such as the people we see in our everyday lives, only in this case our faces. Also, since a mirror and a photo are reflected opposites, we see our familiar reflected face from the mirror(which we like compared to..) daily and not our photo face(which everyone else sees when talking to u). Learned it in psychology class. Read it in my psychology textbook. We find ourselves more attractive than what others may perceive btw!

First off, photos (especially HD photos) are 20% MORE accurate than any mirror.
