Is it normal to think you are smarter than the people you work with

I often find myself looking around my work place and feeling like everyone is dumb even my boss. Sometimes I feel like people are just joking and they really understand what's going on and they just act dumb.

Because I'm going to University I took a job in a clothing store, same problem here, everyone seems dumb. When I was younger I worked at a supermarket where it was even worse, the store manager was dumb as hell (although he thought he was "the man" there). I went to the highest level of high school possibe in the Netherlands, and doing the highest level of study possible so that explains a lot, but I really thought some people at that supermarket were retarded because they just were as dumb as you could imagine.

Sorry, but you're not too bright if you can't handle basic sentence structure.

    *workplace or work-place
*everyone is dumb; even my boss
    *actually understand

Lots of people say, "I don't care if my sentence is correct" or "proper grammar doesn't mean you're smart;" however, the only way to project your brightness on a forum is with your wording. Everyone misspells things - but you just posted a note about how bright you were....so, yeah, I'm gonna give you shit.

I think this is less of "is it normal" and more of a "Is it Arrogant?" And yes....yes, it is arrogant.

I KNOW I'm smarter than one of my clients. But she's pretty damn special at times...so it's not like that really means I'm so good or anything.

Normal..If you think the people around you are stupid AND you've lost respect for them, then its time to find another job where you can be in the company of people that you perceive are at or above your intelligence level that can challenge you and that you can respect....

I get how you feel. A lot of people at my work think that I'm this bubbly, 'not so bright' little girl, because I actually act really weird there. But honestly, its really not how I truly am. Outside of work I'm like a totally different person. And even though they're probably thinking I'm really slow, I actually think I'm probably a hell of a lot smarter than most of them, or at least smarter than they think I am.

Just in the area that I work at theres a lot of people who are in their twenties, and sometimes they come in with hangovers and stuff. They party all the time, and it seems like they don't take life seriously. I mean, sometimes you can't take life seriously, but it seems like they don't take it seriously ever. Not even for a second. Its like everything is a joke/party, and the common sense just isn't there. I never can have an actual normal conversation with them. All they ever talk about is what they did the night before, and its almost always about sex. It kinda annoys me. Not once have I ever heard them talk about something that might actually hold a little more meaning then their drinking habits. And I don't think they ever watch the news. And I'm the youngest. Most of them are like 24/25, and then we have the cooks who are maybe in their late 40's early 50's, but they're usually doing there own thing. While on break, I get stuck talking about who banged who.

    Same thing happens to me.

I'm not going to brag or anything, but I'm always one step ahead on everything. That's why my boss wants me to stay, I'm the last person he wants to lose.

The other people that work with me are kinda clueless sometimes.

Even my boss, always making mistakes.
I love to tell him "I told you so". He hates it. Lol

  • It could be that they are dumb.

Or it could be a negative perception that you have.

If you don't like your job, find a new one, then put in your notice.

Thanks for the lesson lease. I didn't realize the grammar and sentence structure police patrol this site pointing out such important errors thanks for the interesting comment. Oh yeh, and i never said i was clever or brighter ....so get off your soap box..... it's not normal to be such a picky dick hole and correct others... Although I'm sure that's what makes you feel clever.
