Is it normal to think "we'll give you a call" is just a big fat lie?

I have been looking for a job for awhile now, and I have scored quite a few interviews. I felt pretty hopeful about possibly landing the job after a few of them, especially when the interviewers seemed positive about choosing me for the position. However, I have learned over the years NOT to believe them when they say they will call because they never do (and they know it too). As a result, I wind up going into a depression because I feel like they had flat-out lied to me. In fact, I actually kind of hate it when they say that because they don't live up to their promise to do it. Is it normal to see the "We'll call you!" line as nothing but a huge lie?

  • I hate when people say that. I usually find out which car is the hiring mangers and I stuff dog shit on the back side of his door handle.

Ya but you could also take the initiative and call them to show you're seriously interested.

It is. That's what they tell you to let you down easy.

some place told me they would call the next day, i waited 3 weeks and went back there in person (i would've went sooner but like you it made me kind of depressed) anyway they claimed to have left a message on my phone like 2 weeks ago, but there was nothing. I dont know if there is some problem with my phone though, because it seems like i dont always get every message. do you ever call them?

"Don't call us, we'll call you"
    Yep. That's how it is.

They should at least have the courtesy to contact people after an interview to let them know whether or not they have been accepted/hired.

    "Can I have your number?"
"Uhhh... give me your number and I'll call you :)"
"Gee, that sure is convenient! Thanks, pretty lady!"

    ...

    BUT THE CALL NEVER CAME.

Lol it's like always a lie. They just want to give you some real life suspense and keep you waiting.

Yeah, just letting you know now that when an employer says that and they don't give you a time frame, they are saying that so they don't have to deal with a potentially annoying, disappointed job applicant.

They're telling you they are going to do something in the future. It's only a lie if they don't do it. Don't call them liars before they have chance to prove themselves. Even if you have met liars like that, don't tar everyone with that brush.

I hate it too. Sadly I have had to do this stuff. In the company I work, they put me as a sort of positions manager. And I had to meet people wanting to work in the company and to decide if they should proceed to the next step. As in to meet the boss so he can employ them. I was a filter! I had to filter people! Telling 15 or so people "We'll call you" And I somehow feel bad about it. I know that we would never call them. There was a guy that had his hopes up. He told me that he was looking forward to my call and would be free anytime to recieve the call.
Why did they give me this fucking thing! I had to stay in the office for 2 months and to lie to people, crushing their hopes. After 2 months, they put me back to spedition, but still...

I was told this once. He said "If you have the job you will getting a call between 8-10". If we do not call you past 10 you did not get the job". So I sat staring at my phone for 3 hours straight. They called me back in and said "Be at work tomorrow at 7 o clock." and I was there. I don't see why they would claim to call you and just never call back. It was a shitty job though. I was on call 24/7. I could not do as much as go grocery shopping since my boss would call me in at random hours of the day and said "If I was not there I was fired". I also never got my pay check since they would only give us our pay between 10-3 and sometimes I could not make it. They said if you did not come to pick up your check in time you would have to wait till next week and just get next weeks check.

They didn't 'promise' to give you a call, although I understand and agree with what you're saying. A promise is much too personal

They don't tell me that... Not after the last time.

A lot of people went missing that day.

It's the same when a girl tells you let's be friends only. She thinks it hurts less than a flat 'no'. Recruiters think the same.

What if the person just wants to be friends? That is not a lie? Most of my friends I know including myself have exes that we are still friends with.

Off topic. I'm talking about those cases where somebody wants it and gets a sugar coated rejection.
