Is it normal to think 'vego' is offensive?

I work in catering and sometimes I have to separate vegetarian sandwiches from meat. I have to label them but I never label them 'vego'. I think 'vego' can easily be made to sound offensive so I put 'veg' on it or 'vegetarian'. I also would never but 'V' on it because the first word I think of is vagina and I know that it's the same for other people because I've asked.

If you wrote sandwich on the label, the first thing I would think of is vagina.

  • I've never heard the term "vego".

Veg or veggie would be more understandable.

I find veggie kind of childish. Though we do serve some of the sandwiches with the crusts cut off.

Veg seems like a perfectly fine abbreviation, why add the "O" ?

Meh, I just think vego sounds kind of silly. Veg or vegetarian or even veggie sounds better.

"Vego" sounds silly and reminds me of those made up brands in cartoons. "Veg, Vegetarian, Veggie, and Vegan" all sound fine to me:)

I wouldn't be offended but I'd question whether vego means vegan or vegetarian. In this country, V on food packaging does signify vegetarian (not vegan).

Depending on how litigious your country is, you might need to be careful to make a distinction. Most bread isn't vegan because a small amount of milk or dried milk powder is often used in the dough. Unless you've made the bread yourself and can guarantee the recipe.

Although you could be naughty, as some people are, and make the assumption that vegans are of a peaceable mindset and are less likely to sue.
