Is it normal to think this of is it normal gold?

I was just thinking about is it normal as a community and how great it is that you can buy is it normal Gold for someone else. It's not something I would've thought to offer if I were Management.

Do you think this is exceptional or a perfectly normal idea?

This whole IIN Gold thing makes me feel left out. I'm an avid user and I come here and comment everyday, but I'm not really willing to pay the fee needed to become Gold and I don't want a stranger to pay it for me either.

    • You got me there! I went to your profile to buy it for you, then had to stop.

I have bought it for quite a few people that I like - especially if they've mentioned that they didn't have a credit card and couldn't get it for themselves.

No in all honesty I wouldn't allow someone I don't personally know to buy it for me.. isn't it like €50 a pop? No thanks:/

  • It's not the fact it's Gold it's the thought that you can buy it for someone else.

I don't see Paypal inviting me to put money into other people's accounts! Or the banks sending me out letters inviting me to pay the mortgage for some neighbors!

I think it was a nice idea in order to build a community.

    • Would you really want to pay someone elses mortgage?

      • Of course I would, if I had their details and could do it anonymously. Especially, if I thought they were going to lose their home and they had kids!

          • Thank you very much - they're almost the exact same words a girl wrote in a card to me. I don't think I'm exceptional, I just like to pass on my good fortune to others. Watch the film 'Pay it Forward' it's great idea.

I suppose I can comment on this because I was given it anonymously. At first I thought TheManagement had given it to everyone for a month so they could see what it was all about and maybe grow to like it and choose to subscribe, but no, it actually was a gift.

Mine expires today and I probably would renew it if I could do so anonymously (PayPal, or the like). The private messaging is nice, and it's interesting to see stories before they are moderated, plus you get to give something back to keep this site going. I'm sure plenty of us wouldn't want to see it shut down for not turning a profit.

There are a handful of people on the site that I'd like to gift Gold to anonymously as well, just to let them know they are appreciated. I'm not going to say who they are, of course, because then it wouldn't be anonymous.

On the downside, the first story I wrote was about being given it anonymously. I wanted to know if everyone had it and I couldn't think of any other way to ask. Some of the people who responded seemed angry (as if I was complaining that I had it) and some were rude and jealous and small-minded. I'd hate for it to become a status symbol because if that happened, I definitely wouldn't want it and I'd make a point of asking everyone not to consider buying me it.

For those that haven't tried it, it actually is pretty nifty. I've enjoyed my month of it and have probably come to IIN more than I would normally.

P.S. Being able to include images in your posts is really, really good too, because it can often illustrate a point better than just words.

FWIW, the payment process is totally anonymous from my end. I don't get any additional information about who you are. The payment processor (Stripe) is the only one that ever sees your information. I suppose you'll have to take my word on it though.

    I cannot Approve of this.

IIN Gold is leading us down a Slippery Slope which I will be covering in my next Thread.

Why do you dislike the concept of Gold so much?

I don't dislike IIN Gold. I just don't like it as much as other things.

What if someone bought it for you, would your feelings change or stay the same?

          Comment Hidden ( show )
  • If you're feeling generous... I'd love to have IIN Gold. I think the idea is nice, but not exceptional. Santa Claus was the one that really pioneered anonymous gift-giving.

How is it anonymous if you know it is Santa?

      • It's not anymore but back in the day no one knew the gifts they were recieving were from Santa.
