You have the wrong movie, the one where he goes to Mars is with Danny Devito, I think it was called "Children born at the same time to the same mother" or something like that. Anyway Jamie Lee Curtis is he wife and he has to spy on the martians. Then he gets this big ice gun and fights george clooney, who was transformed by kryptonite into a giant bat,because he married maria shriver and then killed everyone when he became the governator of minnesota but everyone kept mistaking him for a pro wrestler so he had to have sex with a housekeeper to prove it wasnt true. It was a great movie.

There are whole branches of philosophy devoted to this. Google "solipsism" and you'll find all kinds of forays into this school of thought.
