Is it normal to think that the media is extremely liberal?

The media in general, and especially Hollywood, has always come across to me as very liberal, to the point of kissing up to the Obamas, especially the First Lady.

is it normal that I think this from what I've observed?

And, no, I DON'T watch Fox News, so I haven't been "corrupted" by it or whatever. It's just that I've noticed that the media tends to reports of one political party more than the other.

It does seem as though the media is very liberal, but think about this.
Giant media corporations are usually owned by rich, old white men right? Why would there be a liberal media in the first place if that liberal media wouldn't be acting in their owner's best interests?

I'm living in America, and in America you're on your own. America's not a country. It's just a business. NOW FUCKIN PAY ME!

Yes, yes it is. Why do you think there's one republican news channel and like 4 democratic ones.

They are, don't even try to argue that they aren't. And I'm referring to national news things like NY Times, and many of the poll conductors ie Gallup.

Typically the mainstream media reflects the people. If you think the media is 'extremely liberal', it's probably because the majority of the people around you are what you'd consider 'extremely liberal' too.

Wake up, it's a liberal leaning country now. This thanks to the ultra right wing oligarchs who stole power in 2000.

Yeah of course they are. Lets see "Hards day work and pay for what you do" vs "No work and free money up the rear". Yeah pretty sure most people are going to go with the second one just because they are lazy fucks.

Depends on what you watch and read. I normally stick to Al Jazeera because they are fair and balanced.

Al Jazeera are pretty good, although not entirely balanced. They conveniently omit anything that could be damaging to Qatar's reputation (or suffer the wrath of Qatar's ruling family - Al Thani).

There have been accusations that they are pro-US and Zionist, but I'm yet to see the evidence. Certainly in regard to their Gaza conflict coverage they don't appear to be pro-Israel.

I still feel like I can't rely solely on them, however. BBC, Al Jazeera, Google Current and the newspapers give me a decent overview.

        I am pro-US and a Zionist, So I wouldn't mind that much :) LOL

My first comment was meant as a joke. Honestly you are right, they are not totally fair on middle east issues. I think the coverage of news outside the middle east is more fair, from what I can tell. I only watch Al Jazeera - English. I couldn't tell you about the other version(s).

Really not a Zionist btw, I think they (and the rest of the world) ought to stop fighting and live as one. But we all know that isn't going to happen :(

I also only watch Al Jazeera English (because my ability to speak Arabic is awful). It's really difficult to know how accurate or honest certain news sources are being about stories so distant it's near impossible to verify - Syria is a big one at the moment. Truthers only add to the confusion and disinformation.

If you're to believe some people there are NO reliable news sources in mainstream media, but I have faith in the common journalist to desire and seek the truth. The ironic thing is the same people who will call all traditional news sources fraudulent are the ones who, without hesitation, swallow the shit spewed by conspiracy channels (Alex Jones springs to mind).

I didn't know if they had other versions you might understand.

I think back in the day, news was a lot more fair before it became about making money and getting ratings. You can get straight foward details on local news, they don't blast you with opinions. It is hard to find mainstream news that is truthful. Even indie journalist will sometimes put there own spin on things.

I keep hearing about this Alex Jones guy, never anything good. I don't know him though.

I don't know what RT is... Let me google. Russia Today? No, I have never seen that.

RT is NOT fair and balanced; they are so eye-wateringly anti-American, anti-EU and anti-UN it's hilarious. They are also overtly pro-Putin. People confuse opposite bias with neutrality, but bias is bias.

Al Jazeera isn't entirely fair and balanced, for that matter - although they provide a less biased view.
