Is it normal to think that running for exercise

Is it normal to think that running for exercise alongside a busy roadway is not healthy?
Every time I see someone running alongside a busy roadway I sincerely feel they are doing much more damage to themselves than not exercising at all.
We all know that what comes out of an automobile's exhaust pipe are very poisonous gasses. When one is exercising near a roadway, one is breathing heavily, inhaling these gasses deep into their lungs and then the poisons are distributed throughout one's system by their blood.
It just seems incredibly counter-productive to me.

It probably depends where you live. In a smoggy city you might be right, but anywhere else I don't agree. And if you live in a smoggy city you'll be breathing in all that smoggy air even if you're sitting on your arse, so you might as well be exercising :P

Whatever excuse you need not to run. Even if you think you believe it do you really?

maybe if it was like on the freeway during rush hour traffic. otherwise I doubt it's much different than running in a quiet neighborhood of the same city/area.

I believe the operative words in the OP's post are, "busy roadway".

Next time you see someone doing that you should tell them.

  • I've wondered the same thing myself. All that carbon monoxide and brake dust coming from a busy street cannot be good for the lungs while they're being worked hard.

I once lived in an apartment directly beside a busy intersection. When it came to dusting and clean it, there was a very apparent layer of black grit over everything. It was revolting and didn't come off easily. That black grit was never there when I lived in other apartments which were not as close to traffic. I wouldn't want to be filling my lungs with it.

  • You realize cars are everywhere right? I don't think it makes a very big difference where you run really. The earth is so full of environmental toxics that newborn infants test for hundreds of them before even taking their first breath. It's too late. Are you another one of those deluded fat pride shit heads?
