Is it normal to think that obese people are arrogant?

I read a comment on this site where fat people wouldn't move to one side on the escalator and it made me think, are they arrogant?

I understand that there are health / hormonal reasons for some people being obese but many just eat crap ... is it normal to think that they feel 'entitled' to take up soooo much space, in seats on planes and in restaurants, etc and it's somehow our fault for not allowing them more room?

    No not normal.

It's never normal to stereotype an entire group of people based on your interactions with just a few individuals.

However many people WILL do that just to justify their own hatred of others.

  • In the mystical land of Canada...adada a fat man accused me of being of low birth. Taking offense I withdrew my rapier to avenge my honor. He scored neither the first injury

    ...Nor the last.

Alas arrogant fat man! You proved yourself worthy of the victory but I proved myself worthy of invincibility.

I know the comment you mean but I think he was making a self-deprecating joke. I don't think he was actually saying he deserved entitlement. That's certainly what my instincts led me to believe, anyway.

Have to agree with this..I've found most obese fatties to be obnoxious, rude, and think they're better than everyone else (a defense, no doubt, to being made fun of). Dated a few, but, never again, and absolutely found this to be true. One was so flat-out obnoxious that I left my half of a bar bill on the bar and left her. Got tired of her rude, racist comments (referred to two black guys, one of whom I knew and is an IT engineer) as "you people", had more than her share of martinis, and was, in general..Not a nice person. I bailed.

A lot of obese people have this complex that they must "love their curves" and fuck-you for stating otherwise. On the other hand, a lot of obese people are extremely insecure with themselves. They hide under baggy clothing, dread shopping and are usually daunted with fat-centered jokes or insults. There are arrogant ones among all body shapes.

I happen to be obese...and trust me, we are not arrogant. We are actually very insecure. I can't speak of every one of us, but most are insecure and just too lazy.

There are probably a few assholes who are arrogant (but that can go for skinny people as well)

Personally, I'm so timid I stay against a wall sideways to allow as much room as possible.

  • Maybe arrogant is the wrong word. Do you think that perhaps they are angry with their lives and resent other people, for what they assume they think of them?

I can't imagine how people can get soooo big because although I'm not very weight conscious, I start to feel a little uncomfortable if my clothes feel tight.

Personally, I feel a little sorry for them as I'm sure they're uncomfortable carrying excess weight.

You say fat people assume that people think bad of them, yet you are thinking bad of fat people, so it isn't really an assumtion when people really do think fat people, are lazy, unmotivated, and arrogant.
For me I got bigger when I was about 8-10 years old, I was a kid I didn't really think about weight as a kid. And there's also a thing call metabolism, and for people with a slow metablolism it's extremely easy to put weight on and very hard to get it off.
And you are also putting all fat people into one group because of a few people. You are being ignorant.

i've been fat and unattractive, and i've been beautiful. I can tell you that being an obese person, is really hard!!! you're the butt of everyone's jokes, forget finding a date! even finding a job can be hard. it's hard to find clothes, so u end up having few clothes, plus you dread.clothes shopping. you're unpopular, lack self confidence. even on this site there are several posts about hating fat people, and omg it huts how people treat you!! which is why I went full out on a quest to get into shape, and lost 40 lbs and i've maintained my exercise regimen and diet throughout the years. i'm 36 now, I was obese/overweight from 20-23, and i'm getting hit on by 20 year olds still! I will never forget how hard it is to be so big, so instead of hating, try to understand!

I would say it is normal, but it is not justifiable to assume that a = b.

I dont think that most people strive to be obese, so perhaps trying to look at it from that perspective might help.
