Well considering how repressed and intelligent they have to be it was bound to happen. You ever wonder why geek culture is so interesting? Japan is simply a bunch of geeks. Who are pushed very hard to succeed. Sexually repressed, plus highly intelligent equals WEIRD. Good weird or bad weird you are going to get some really bizarre stuff.

The same can be found around the world. For example, America has furry porn.
In any case, most of the "weirdness" you see in Japanese media AFAIK is not representative of Japanese culture. I mean apparently anime there isn't super-popular among adults as many people think it is.

I think it definitely is, though those actions are done by a few and don't reflect the whole population. They have adopted western culture to an extent but that integration only makes them more weird.

They have enough brains that our whole economy would collapse overnight, should they choose to change the system.
The Japanese have had their day, but over spending and investing poorly in places like Hawaii and Europe has left them in pretty poor shape. Their industrial systems are archaic and the Chinese have taken their cheap manufacturing structure and improved on it.
Japan was a great model for the Chinese to build on, but the Japanese will have little place in world commerce in the future.
Labor in Japan is no longer cheap (nothing in Japan is cheap), but China has an inexhaustible supply of cheap labor.Comment Hidden ( show )
