Is it normal to think that inanimate objects have feelings too?

Every time someone cuts through food and starts cutting the plate I tend to feel bad for the plate. Or when someone drops flowers or a TV remote I feel bad for it.. And I feel like they feel hurt. Sometimes I think inanimate objects talk to each other...

I'm afraid of putting this on here just in case they're reading it or something.... oh whatever, I can pay for it later. Every inanimate object has a soul, so I'm doing my best not to insult any of them. (That's why I have to turn away from them whenever I make a face at them. Or why I try to hold in my farts so my chair doesn't have to smell them. Then I feel bad. It's like gossiping or something.) Or if I accidentally scrape one, I feel it inside me like I scraped myself, only it's worse. I then must proceed to give the inanimate object a massage. Sometimes I'll kiss them so they feel better. I've kept this bottled up for as long as I can remember. But you are definitely not alone.

No this is a symptom, you need to talk to a psychiatrist.

I feel that, too ;) I thought I was the only one but I guess it's normal. 58% say it's normal, which is more than half, so I guess it is :)

It's always on some subconscious level, but I've been passing it off to some combined force of synesthesia and learned habits. It may have even been natural for us to do this, for all I knew. Now it seems only about half think so thus far.

I love my plushie and care about her "feelings" but other than that I don't give a fuck about feelings of objects^^

Flowers talk to each other by giving out airborne chemical signals when they are under attack. Other nearby flowers pick up on this and either close up or release toxins or do whatever they can to defend themselves.

How is it any different from humans having chemical signals fly around their bodies, sometimes turning them to verbal warnings or expressions of pain?

I'm not saying it's at the same level and we should all suddenly respect the rights of flowers, but it is the same thing, and we should at least consider that we share similarities before we dismiss them out of hand.

Costs nothing extra to have an open mind.

I do not think that is technically an inanimate object? I think that falls under food?

  • Only certain things. It depends on if I'm stoned. Suprisingly when im stoned I.e right now, i dont think objects talk to each other, but who knows, when im not high, i might see where your coming from. Funny thing how the mind works.

I feel this way too. Sometimes, I feel bad for vegetables. If I bump into something inanimate, I'll try to say sorry to it. I feel very bad towards plants. Flowers getting pulled from the earth or grass getting mowed. I can't help but think that they have feelings...

You should read a Short Story called "Man Upon A Rock".

Isn't it amazing how many things are Unproven yet we hold to be true anyway?

Stones are not conscious of their own Reality, we exist, and we're thinking even though we can't explain How. But to think of what the Alternative is, that isn't very appealing either.

Maybe you're projecting your feelings onto these objects, or you've been watching too much Toy Story.
