Is it normal to think that harm is wrong unless it's to yourself

I'm generally completely against doing harm and in all situation see the path that causes least harm as the right thing to do. However there is an anomaly in my actions compared to this way of thinking. I used to self-harm regularly and still would if I were in a similar situation to how I was then. This leaves me with the odd philosophy "Harm is wrong, unless it's to yourself"

I guess it sort of makes sense because I have complete choice in it, and so it's not forceful harm. I don't know though.

Well, if you're harming yourself you've got control and a choice in the matter. Harming others is different because it's not their choice, they don't want to be harmed. Someone who harms themselves must have a reason for it, it must make them feel better in some way, coz otherwise they wouldn't do it would they?

I think that's how most people are. They don't care as much about hurting themselves as they do with others. I'm not sure why they is though.

It hints at deeper troubles with your psyche. This could be argued to make you a less productive member of society and impact everyone indirectly.
