Is it normal to think that greed in the first world will end us all?

Hypothetically, all life on Planet Earth is extinguished (sooner than you think) and greed in the first world is largely to blame. Knowing that our economy will be weakened, but it is our only chance for survival. Is it normal to think this?

Just watched a TV programme tonight on 'Metal Theft' where thieves are stealing copper wire from electricity sub stations, hospital generators, railway tracks, etc. It is causing hospital operations to be cancelled, phone lines and computers down for the emergency services, electrical equipment in hundreds of homes to 'fry', trains cancelled so commuters are unable to get to work.

So certainly this level of 'greed' is destroying thousands of people's lives every day, and killing people too!

Maybe now that it's been publicised more people will start to steal metal and escalate our demise even faster.

    • I will re-iterate. we must all work together. We must preserve our technological civilisation. We must work with one mind. If we continue on the course we're on, nothing else will matter. All life on Earth will be extinguished in short order. We need a coherent plan. We need to think globally and act locally. We must not degenerate into anarchy.
This problem is not that complex.
I have the solution written down on a few pieces of paper
We must act quickly, but calmly.
I need you to help me, for yourself, everyone and everything you love. If we don't act, nothing will matter anymore.
I need you to ask your friends, associates, family and neighbours about this.
We should make a handbook, "A Handbook For Our Long-Term Survival". It should only be about 1cm thick and be applicable for the ENTIRE world.
Persons wishing to do this should co- operate with one another and consult with me so that is coherent. This should be a 'living' document, subject to modification.

  • There is a solution to this problem.
    1 step at a time.
We must not cause panic or hysteria in society as a whole or in part.
Every man, woman and child needs to do their part. Everyone must make sacrifices, myself included.
Please ask pertinent questions as to the path we should take and I will answer them.

People are greedy everywhere and have been since we were walking upright.

Unless there is some kind of massive natural cataclysm, I don't think we'll be regressing to pre-industrial days. So, those of us in the first world countries (who have the power and means ) are responsible for carrying our technological society forward in a way that will reduce the impact we have on our planet.

I'm optimistic in thinking we'll definitely get there soon.

Overpopulation is a problem, though, and I really don't know how to solve it without restricting the amount of kids people are allowed to have.

You had stated that you don't know how to solve the problem of Overpopulation. I have some ideas on how to solve this. It is not up to me to decide, it is up to ALL OF US TO DECIDE. I need you to ASK ME what my views are on this, in short and to the point questions. I will answer them.

  • Armageddon is closer than you think.Accept Jesus as your Lord and savior while you still can.

    • Wrong thinking. The teachings of Jesus have been corrupted and usurped by greedy people through the years. Jesus was a bad influence on his own family and society. Do your research. This information is being kept by the Vatican and is being withheld.

Can you explain? I have been intrigued by many of the things you have said. Are you really something different or are you lying or insane?

        • Yes, I am something different, I am not lying, nor am I insane. I am one who is not afraid to ask the difficult questions (the ones that politicians won't touch).
It is really quite simple, there are too many people (some who live far too greedily) for our small planet to sustain.
There is only one way to ethically correct the path we're on, should we keep our technology, our modern medicine and end large wars. We must simply stop breeding so prolifically and reduce the size of the population to sustainable levels.

      • Everyone must admit that we were wrong. Including myself.

I kind of see where you're coming from with this, but I disagree.

I think that life in some way will continue to exist on this planet even if it's little single cells in a underground cave.

I hope we will soon find reason though, in the sense that we'll start distributing wealth and workload more evenly. We already understand this, it's just hard to change a whole society I suppose.

I feel like we'd do better without a hierarchy and a capitalist system, and better with sustainable human development I.E. something directly for the benefit of living humans, animals and ecosystems, and not for an abstract concept of wealth.

    • Respectfully, I feel that ALL life on Planet Earth will cease to exist should we continue on the path we're on.
We have three major problems to overcome:
      1) Most plastics. Take a look around you and see how plastics have invaded our lives. Corporate greed has suppressed information in the public spotlight as to the real danger they pose. Microplastics are invading into living cells and are causing all biota to be poisoned.
      2) Overpopulation.
      3) An enlightened and ethical technological society needs to be developed in order for long term survival
      (deep time).
We must all act quickly but not cause mass disruption in our civilisation.

Religious extremism will kill us all a lot faster than greed.

    • Political bickering and religious nonsense must stop.
Leaders have their part to play, consoling and directing the many confused people.
We easily outbreed all the violence and disease combined.
