Is it normal to think that "god" is sadistic?

Most of the time people don't agree when i blame god , they love him very much and pray to him, they fast ramadan, pray in the church , mosques , they always talk about how good he is, but don't they FORGET ,thier 8 year old son who died in a car crash while he was on his bicycle?, or don't they sympathize with the 6 year old girl (whose now 60 ),whom "god" killed her mother by cancer ,when she was only six years old and her father married another woman and sent her to boarding school were the nuns treated her badly ,she got married to a selfish husband and has a bad teenager ?!, or those whose loved ones were taken away too soon, and they become more faithful ,more loving towards "God". Why does "God" allow these horrible things to happen , and then he orders us to "worship him", he doesn't approve us of killing others, yet he kills others .is it normal to think that God is sadistic and all what is written in the holly books ,is to hide that he isn't a good almighty power?

No offence to you but in my opinion it SO wrong what you think, don't mean to offend you or anything but have you ever realised that the people who go through the most are the most strongest people and appreciate and make the most of this life. God does EVERYTHING for a reason, if bad things didn't happen people wouldn't appreciate the good things they have. And if people didn't appreciate they wouldn't have no motives in life if you think about it :) It might be difficult for you to see it from my point of view but trust me everything happens for reason - we may not know why these things happen but he surely does :) you just got to have faith. But i can assure you he doess love you - more that you probably even know.. I'm a muslim and mothers are very highlyyy valued in my religion ; buh we believe god loves us 70 times moree than our mothers - personally I think that shows a lot :) ..I honestly hope you can see how much he loves and cares for his creation - you'll all be in my prayersss alwaysss :)

If god is all knowing and powerful, then yes he is sadistic. That would mean that god makes terrible people knowing that they will torment good peoples lives. What was going on in god's head when he made hitler?

Everything God does is done for a reason. You just don't understand why you suffer. We suffer so we will want to not suffer. This ultimatly leads one to question spirituality and it will change our views sometimes. It brings us closer to God, that is why God is so good. We don't always understand why things happen but God does.

Remember if there is a God then there most certainly is a Devil. Whos to say the Devil isnt killing them to get back at God saying 'Haha I killed your nice person, f you!'

It's normal to question your god's plan when you're having a crisis of faith. In that, you can either seek to understand the mind of your god better (I'd recommend C.S. Lewis) or you can change your belief system to a different one or none at all.

As for people dying from accidents or illness, it's the way of the world. Everything dies, get over it.

As for people marrying badly/having bad children...that's their fault. They can leave the situation or help their loved ones come to a place of better morals.

I found it! It's called Embraced by the Light - Betty J Eadie. Very cheap on ebay and Amazon. It's about a lady who dies and from heaven can see people's souls shining out of them instead of physical appearance eg. a drunk lying in the gutter. She is told her purpose in life so that she will return to earth but can't remember it until years later when she adopts a 2 year old. It's a beautiful read that will take you about 2 hours to read.

We all know that people suffer but I believe, "That which doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger."

Anyhow, how can you say that someone dying is a bad thing? If you believe they are going 'home' then it's only our own selfishness that makes us mourn.

Anyway, our's is not to question why. We can't even open a rose bud to make a flower, so how can we begin to understand His reasons.

    • Yes , but it is a bad thing for the person who lost that person , like a child losing his/her parent ,how cruel is that , couldn't he wait at least 20 years more or something ?!

I understand exactly what you're saying and I know it's a tough life for that child but I read a great book a few years ago that helped me a lot. I've scoured my house for it tonight, but I bought it for a few people so I will get back to you tomorrow with the title. It basically explained why souls chose to be born into disabled bodies etc in order to experience hardship. It was a beautiful read and very humbling.

If there was a god I would totally agree with you. It's too bad so many people are too stupid to believe in science, things that have been proven. Religion is just a way for people to disagree and start war. Almost every war started from religion disagreements.

I don't think that god is real but If I did I would raise an eyebrow or two at some of things he does. I would definitely not call him all loving put it that way.

God doesn't control what happens. People get sick or injured, and God takes them to get them out of their misery. I'm not saying everybody has to believe there's a god or a higher power, but saying he's "sadistic" just sounds harsh.

Hey hey you guys!! This is just what the devil wants you to think remember? He tries to put harm in everyones life to make you think it's Gods fault.?.?. He's drawing you in.. Plus when people die they are just going to a better place x1,000,000 :) remember this verse. "the devil will put you through prison but do not be afraid even if you are about to die, for you will have the prize of everlasting life in the kingdom of heaven. <3

The Devil? You mean that ruddy guy with the goat horns and a prop sized fork? I thought that was Pan about to eat a huge plate of chicken carbonara. Or did you mean Lucifer Morningstar, Belial, Baal, or one of the hundreds of other deities demonized by a cult of a cult (your god El Shaddai/YHVH comes from the Babylonian Pantheon...Abraham "discovered" him in Iraq) that was humanity's way of understanding the planet Venus?

I'm going to a better place? You mean I'm going to the Netherlands where I can have sex with unionized hookers and smoke quality tobacco alternatives? I'm going back to Kobol...oops, I mean Kolob? I'm going to a place with an inexplicable stable of virgins? Which one? Is there a Starbucks there with Santa and the Tooth Fairy behind the counter?

Your god only has power because two billion people are idiots.

I've been trying to understand the religious mindset, to see things from a religious point of view for a change, but even so there's so much that doesn't make sense to me. Christians would say that god gave us free will. Presumably then he wants us to overcome our selfish, immoral, destructive urges. If he's almighty and benevolent why didn't he just create perfect beings in the first place? Why this test of character with all the suffering to the innocent caused in the process? I can only come to the same conclusions you did. But I already know the kind of answer we would get from the devout: something along the lines of "God's ways are not our ways"
