Is it normal to think rap is weird
It's not melodious, it's not music. Why do people like it and listen to rap "songs"? What's good about it when it's just talking?I find rap weird!

I don't listen to much rap, but I wouldn't go as far as saying that it's not music. Of course it's music. It's music by the very definition of the word.
"the science or art of ordering tones or sounds in succession, in combination, and in temporal relationships to produce a composition having unity and continuity"
-merriam-webster dictionary
They're not just simply talking, they're rhythmically rhyming words in time to a beat which creates a flow.
You don't have to like it, but to say it's not music is simply incorrect. I generally don't like rap either. There are a few exceptions here and there. Most of it just doesn't do anything for me. Especially the newer stuff of today. The early to late 90's saw, imo, the best rap acts there ever were. I like it best when it's mixed with rock or metal to make sort of a hybrid. Like Rage Against the Machine.
It's actually poetry, and believe it or not, a lot of it actually hasmeaning behind it, far more that what today's music has.
It's definetly better than screamo music.
Some examples of good rap songs.

I know a lot of screamo songs that have meaning to them. Slipknot's lyrics are very hard to understand (in my opinion) and all of their songs have meaning.
"far more that what today's music has"
Hip Hop hasn't ended. There's plenty still being released that has meaning, emotional depth and intelligent lyricism.
Now more than ever, those with talent aren't hindered by the necessity of being signed by a label, being able to play a traditional instrument or having access to very expensive equipment. That means everyone 'can have a go', resulting in much more crap, but much more innovation, and some beautiful music that would otherwise never have been made. The mainstream might have been diluted somewhat, but alternative music is thriving.
Excellent choice with Ghetto Gospel, that song still sends shivers down my spine.
I don't know why you hate rap, but it is obvious that you never really listened to rap before. Just because YOU don't like rap dosen't make it a fact. Yes, some rap is dirty and has no meaning to it, but rap artists like Eminem or Drake actually rap about real-life situations.
Don't judge a book by it's cover.
Of course not. What's weird about this?

To name a few. If you don't think Hip Hop is music, you have a very narrow definition of music. Bare in mind, rap is just a style of vocal delivery, an alternative way of vocalising to singing.
I like Rush and I like Daria. So that deems me smarter than rap artists.
Since they are hard to understand people will think it's just nonsense without thinking.
1. Not all rap is garbage, although most of the modern mainstream stuff is. There is good rap music out there though, and that is coming from someone who's music collection is about 95% rock.
2. I guess you've never heard of "epic rap battles of history" on youtube.
3. I think RubyCane's post was one of the most inspirational things I've read on here in a while. Props :)
I deeply appreciate your kind words, it feels great when one's thoughts reaches for almost everyone's hearts, getting so close to another's concepts feels kind of "rewarding"...

Tell me that's not a powerful lyric.
