Is it normal to think people are talking about you behind your back?

I don't tend to get along with my house mates that much yet I do act civil with them. I suppose we are friendly, but it's just that we'll never be friends. When we are all together, we even manage to have a few laughs with each other. But the other girl I live with is incredibly bitchy which makes me slightly suspicious of her.
If we are all in the same room, and I leave then I become instantly paranoid that they are all talking about me and making fun of me. I once caught the girl I live with talking about me behind my back which makes it worse.
Is this normal?
