Is it normal to think girls who suffer for beauty have mental illness?

Why would anyone suffer for beauty? I just don't get it. Well, that's perhaps why attention whores exist.

I wouldnt say they suffer from a mental illness.... They just think beauty is a must.

Are you talking about serious risks like binging and purging, or simple things like waxing, or working out?

  • Technically anyone who exercises to look good "suffers" for beauty (it can hurt sometimes lol.) no its not a mental illness. I am glad that corsets are out of style now though. Thats probably one of the most painful things women wore for beauty.

It's not a mental illness. It's called taking care of ourselves. Men love it and women enjoy pampering themselves.

Not everyone goes to excess with it or does it for the wrong reasons. I've had a plastic surgery, just one, and it was for personal reasons only and it's been 4 years and I've never entertained getting any other surgery. It was to essentially correct an imperfection that only 2 people in this world get to see...it improved my life greatly and I don't regret it nor do I feel fake...it gave me confidence and improved my marriage to boot, so what's the problem?

I think people who don't take care of themselves are more likely to have a mental illness. You said suffer, well tweezing your eyebrows and waxing hurts but so what? Any service like getting your nails done wastes time and costs money so the wallet suffers. People work out to stay in shape and it puts a lot of strain on the body some say they suffer for results. Is that what you meant? I'm not sure I understand what you mean by suffer. But I'm sure that you aren't suggesting that we all walk around looking like obese cavemen with unclipped fingernails. lol
