Is it normal to think everything is fake?

Truth is something people take for granted. People assume things are true when really they have no reason to think so.

Think of the text books. How do we know anything described in the science text book is true when we never saw the experiments and don't know enough to do them ourselves? What if every thing they tell us about science is a lie and all of it from how rocks are made to how plants grow is completely fake? How can we trust anything in the history text book when historians themselves admit that many things taught as historical fact are guessed at or completely made up just to fill in the blanks?

What about news? How do we know anything talked about on the news is even happening and isn't just made up to make us think of the world the way we're supposed to? How do we know the people running for the American election exist and aren't just icons to make us think something is happening?

How do we know if the people we know are really our friends? Maybe they just pretend to be when they don't like us if we're lucky! But maybe they could be worse and pretending to be our friends as part of some kind of plan! How do we know anyone is who they say they are? The guy selling hot dogs on streets is maybe a government spy. Especially people on the internet, we can't know they're real people.

How do we know this whole world isn't part of some big plan and every thing we think we know is completely wrong and is meant to make us think that the world is different from what it is. Maybe it's not even the government or some other group. Maybe it's forces we don't understand something that's not human. We can't know!

I'm not saying any of what I said is true, I'm just saying that maybe the people think things are true without really thinking about if we aren't being lied to on every level. What is true? How much do we take the truth for granted?

I do not know the others, but science is not fake.

I can comment on your post, which you created by using your electronic device which should have internet connection in order to communicate with the server (and hundreds of other details). All of these works because of science. Even the vibrator, that you may use, can be considered as an evidence to proof that science is not fake.

Science appears to be very logical because of proof, but the thing is, it's illogical to say either science or religion is logical. Is it logical to say a supreme being made two humans from dust and a rib to reproduce and create the world's population? No. Is it logical to say that apes somehow developed human emotions, feelings, and physical features over time? Not at all. But that's what they are; beliefs.

A huge question your asking here. I think it just come down to w.e age, that everyone lies. Regardless If it a book or not.

I think like this. I have a tattoo that reads "think for yourself, question authority" ;)

I agree we do take what we know for granted. It's almost like religion where we don't think for ourselves and instead get information thrown at us that we are expected to believe without any evidence to back it up. In today's society however, we have become too lethargic to test what we know. Coquito ergo sum, I think therefore I am. The only thing that you really know is that you exists. Rene Descartes mentality is the same as yours. Anyways, back on topic, we do not know if everything is true. But why bother testing the truth. Humans like to live in beautiful lies, not painful truths.

A very wise viewpoint. I don't think everything actually IS fake, but it does no harm to question things. Whether you are told things by a journalist, a web page, a friend, or a science book, you are still getting it by means of a filter.

If I wear sunglasses, does the sun become dimmer? Some say yes, I say no. The sun remains unchanged. Only my perception of it has changed. People treat these two things as the same. They are very much not.
