Is it normal to think america is in the center?

I saw a globe before I ever saw a world map, so I just assumed America was considered the center. But dad said says Chinese people consider their country to be the center and that the name "China" comes from a word chino, meaning "center". He then said that because the world is round, no one is in the center. Since then I've noticed that on most world maps, America is on the left, which would mean if there IS a center, it would have to be the ocean.

no, china is the center 1
yes but only if you're american 5
yes 2
no, many people believe there to be no center 10
no, the ocean is the center 2
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Are you stupid. The planet is a sphere. The center would be the core or something.

Trump doesn't just rule and affect America. Same with all of our presidents, they affected and always influence the world. World trade and the stock market has never just been America. During the great depression in the 1930s and during the recession of 2008-2011, high unployment didn't just affect America, it affected many countries. However, some of the poster's reasons for thinking that America or China may be center, due to world maps, the globe, and the world being round? That's some dumb reasoning though, that's probably why Mehhh asked if he/she's 5.

Your reply reminded me of Family guy episode where Brian has Julian over acting all dumb and Stewie goes "it's like she's fucking 5".

What would be the opposite of center of anything? Does center even have an opposite?

0 / 0 aint the center its just halfway along the rotational axis what lines up with some limey town

The opposite would be the antipode on the other side

its still on the equator though so 0 / 180

180 / 180 could be either north or south pole and theres no longitude at the pole anyhow

the opposite to the journey to the center of the mind is watchin idiots argue bout politics on cable news

I meant the center of an object in general. What is the term for the opposite? As far as I know there isn't one.

  • I'm sure it's a well known fact that most Americans aren't very bright, (and if they want to argue that lets just remember they elected Trump to run their country) but surely, even they must realise that like all countries they are on the outer surface of a sphere, so they could not possibly be in the centre. The centre is the earth's core.
