Is it normal to think about jumping in front of the subway?

Most days, when I wait for a subway to pull into the platform, I think about what it might be like to jump before an oncoming train.

And I always look down the platform when the train does come in to see if someone actually does it.

I'm so sick of people flipping out about these kinds of random thoughts.

People think about this kind of stuff for the same reason they ride roller coasters. It's a rush and sometimes it's fun.

If you're not otherwise depressed, don't get all bunched up over this. You're a risktaking warrior locked up in a grey flannel nine to five world. It's just your brain bungee jumping. Have fun with it!

Find something that's a little safer that can give you the same rush.

I think about it too, I never actually do it though, so I guess it MIGHT be normal.

It's fine to have those thoughts. We all have urges, impulses, and fantasies that we cannot control. However, having impulses and acting on them are two different things.

  • If you stand too close to the edge, someone's going to push you in front of the oncoming train.
    It happens.
    Don't be such a dumbass.

I like to place myself in a variety of strange, and often irrational situations. Mentally, of course.
I suppose it's normal, as long as you aren't actually planning on it.

    • Nope I was definitely really considering it.

A girl I knew was even saying my name and I didn't hear her until the third time she said it.

I said no but maybe it is ok to just THINK about it as long as you never want to. if you do want to you need to talk to somebody about it

  • Don't do it, although if you are having thoughts like that, maybe you should see a doctor.

I've had an experience similar myself with a bus once and I know that thinking those thoughts are never right.
