Is it normal to think about an ex boyfriend at least twice a day?

I do this every single day and have been doing this for about 5 years now. I honestly can't stop and I'm in a relationship right now..a relationship I've been in for about 4 1/2 years..I got together with this guy about 6 or so months after I broke up with my ex and I never stopped thinking about him. I still have feelings towards him, but I'm unsure if it's love or just a memory of what was there? I mean, he was amazing, he was sweet, gentle, kind, everything, but one day, he said he couldn't be with me anymore. I asked why and he nearly cried. I don't know why he broke up with me and I still talk to him about once a month and I asked him about 2 months back, why he broke up with me, but he still is unsure.

This guy is honest to the core; trust me and he told me "I really don't know. I do know that I still care a great deal about you and that I did love you, but I just had to end it."

Note: This was a long distance relationship, but he literally talked to me every single day on the phone, on aim, on webcam, on mic, on myspace, on everything. We were serious. He got a ring with my name on it, etc. He was really into me, but then he just stopped being into me when he came back from a 7 day trip. We met and everything..he never broke up with me either.. he just said "I'm so sorry, but I am isolated. I feel I am a blackhole." ->he was a poetic like soul. A very sweet and charming boy really, but I don't know why he left me.

He says he likes the new girl he's with but he never says love. He wrote it on her facebook though, but he never writes it on his aim message like he did with me. He used to make of poetry for me to read every day..he doesn't do that with her. It's just a single heart on his message.

I hope you read most of it..if not, its okay, but anyway.

WHY CANT I STOP THINKING ABOUT HIM???? HES OBVIOUSLY NOT THE ONE FOR ME...SO WHY??? I DONT GET IT. HIS LOOKS WERENT EVEN MY TYPE AT ALL! He was good looking , sure but the hair color was wrong, the body type was wrong..everything was wrong and we don't even have too much in common.. just movies, music and tv shows.

ANYONE? PLEASE I HOPE YOU READ MOST THANKS!!!!

    i suggest you delete them both on facebook and dont keep torturing yourself by looking at what he has written to her, i was in a similar situation and just by doing that made a huge difference. time will heale and you will eventually move on. goodluck :)

    My dear friend .... it is normal to happen like this, the life is ever changing, nothing is sure and certain, but still any person can keep thinking of someone who has been loved before. just try and keep your mind engaged in new creative things. the days will change and you will have a wonderful life in future.

    You talked a lot about how sweet he was for you, but then you end it with he wasn't right for you. Maybe he felt that and had to end it. You should try to just be friends and stop comparing his new girl with you because your approaching a fine line there. I mean your not being fair to the other girl when you talk about how much better he was to you, but yet he wasnt "right" for you?! Get over yourself and then realize that he is actually not with you anymore and try and move on. Long distance relationships provide each person involved with a unique view of the other person because its not a physical love so just read your essay and you can see why you guys aren't together. I could be wrong though, but thats how you wrote it, as if he just got tired of being so right for you, and right for you at the same time...
