It's not weird at all, in fact it's probably rather normal. Online talking gives you time to think about a response, and many people (myself included) prefer that. But you should probably still try to hang out with him too, otherwise you may push him away and regret it (trust me, I've done it). You don't have to have the kind of conversations you have with him online in person, maybe explain to him that you feel more comfortable not talking as much in person. Just be happy in each others' company without much talking, whil still talking a lot online and by text.
