Is it normal to text female friends much when your dating someone?

I have a guy friend i've known since we were in 1st grade in 1993 (i'm 25, he just turned 26). We never had many classes with each other so we didn't talk much until recently, when we started commenting each other on FB and texting (sometimes for 2 hours or more).

He got a girlfriend recently and i'm very happy for him. He really deserves to be happy for once.

Maybe i'm just not used to it since my other guy friends don't do this when they have girlfriends, but we text every 1-2 days sometimes for 2 hours or more. Is this considered normal behavior to text your female friends this much when your dating someone else?

    Why not if you are just friends.

    As long as he isn't donig it while on a date.

    Yeah I done that, but her boyfriend was stupidly over protective even though he cheated on her more or less daily. He threatened to beat me up, even though he was a close friend of mine, although he didnt, he wanted me to back off. All depends on the Boyfriend, you got to understand buddy, If a girl texts his girl, its fine, but as soon as there is the smell in the air its a boy. You better watch your back! Thats being overprotective, but if hes a little coward, text them all you want. This person im on about happened to be a "gangster" although he was a little spoiled brat who hung around with weirdos and smoked weed and though he was cool, even though my mates always push him around.

    Some people text more than others. I wouldn't read too much into it.

    Well the reason i ask is 99% of my guy friends don't text/ talk to me this much. One did a few years ago, turned out he liked me. So for me it's kind of weird when a guy friend does it.

    Perfectly normal. My close guy friends and I text pretty much every day, even when they have a girlfriend or I have a boyfriend.
