Is it normal to tell your parents that you lost your virginity

I haven't told mine. But since it's a pretty significant and proud moment of your life, when your emotions might be all over the place, I was wondering do other people tell theirs.

No it's not normal 30
Yes it's normal, but I wouldn't do it 21
Yes it's normal 15
Yes it's normal, I've told one or both of my parents (or would've if I could go back) 5

I think they might have figured that one out for themselves when I told them they were going to be grandparents.

    • Ask a question and get downvoted. I still don’t understand how this is a “proud moment”. It just happens, it’s not an annual milestone.
I just find that term unusual and would like OP to ellaborate.

Because you feel attractive and desirable since someone actually agreed to have sex with you, you don't feel like some hideous troll. Also you feel you've just matured a bit more because you've started doing another adult activity. I wasn't the one who downvoted you btw.

        • Ok. Guess I didn’t see it that way. I just was happy about it for myself. Thanks.

I never did, I'm pretty sure most people don't.

  • How would that be a proud moment?
If I told my parents I lost my virginity I’d be in serious trouble.

Why? It's not something they really want to hear in the first place.

Depending how old you are really but I think definitely go for it and tell them, if they aren’t supportive parents may be tell someone who would support you with this but make sure you are careful! And use protection!

"Hey Mom and Dad, guess who just took it like a pornstar!!!"

Ok, all joking aside ... it all depends on the type of relationship you have with your parent(s). It's really something they don't need to know. It's private and you really should keep it that way unless you need help getting some sort of birth control. Maybe then tell them you're sexually active.

As for the gritty details? Keep it to yourself unless you have some serious sexual questions. All of which you can pretty much find the answers online anyways. (not that they might be correct either)

      ROTFLMAO!

Don't tell them unless they're gonna order a cake to celebrate. Throw a big party and ask people to bring presents!

LMAO. I can't image what it would say on the cake or what kind of decorations would be strung around the house! haha. A BIG party .... love it.

    Boy or girl?
    I'm guessing you're a boy.
Funny, it's not a thing girls consider.
If you're grown enough to have sex.
You're old enough to know it's only your business.
    Not everyone else's

"Losing virginity" isn't something girls consider? Really? I think you're incorrect on that one.

My daughter rang me up to tell me she'd had sex for the first time and that it was fantastic!

My parents thought I was a sex crazed monster just because I might get an erection. I'm glad I left them when I was 18. Compared to normal parents, they were weird.

    "Normal" varies between families.

In some families, the relationship between parents and offspring is so open and honest that it will feel completely normal to mention this milestone.

Other families never discuss anything to do with sex.

If you're very close to one or both of your parents and there are feelings you're having which you'd like to discuss with the people who know you best, then you might try raising the issue. Sometimes, people find it easier to talk about this sort of stuff with others in the family - a grandparent, for example.

  • Losing your virginity is normal, telling your parents is nuts!
