Is it normal to taste/smell a memory?

I was just wondering if it's normal to have a taste in my mouth or a smell if I'm remembering certain memories. I get this feeling in my head and then a taste. I feel like I am at that point in time, it's a very odd feeling. Anyone else get this?

There is a plastic smell that takes me back to my giant snakes and ladders set from when i was 3 every time i smell it. Also, i taste sherbert whenever I think about it, same with vinegar.

    You could be synesthetic.

Smell is the sense most linked to memory centres in the brain. A certain smell can conjure up a complete image of something the five year old me experienced. Never heard of it the other way around, but it's probably not unusual.
