Is it normal to tame my son's hair with a hair bow?

Ok before you get started, I just use the bows before we are going somewhere like church or school and take it out before the event starts. He is 7 years old and has crazy wild hair. The Bows tame the hair and keep it in place better than water or hair gel.

    Is a haircut completely out of the question?
    That is a really mean thing to do to a young boy.

    Why nor just use a bobby pin and or a rubber band instead of a bow? That stuff is so cheap at the drug store so I can't imagine why you would use a bow unless you have ulterior motives.
