They don't know how I really am. I have a wide vocabulary but with them, I never use complex words. I feel almost embarrassed to use them like I don't have the permission.. and I also stumble on my words A LOT when talking to my mother, but I never stumble when talking to anyone else.
I'm much like you, all the things I know, and hide from them, I'm scared to say anything that might mess up my life, you probably stumble before you're gonna lie don't you? I do the same sometimes
And what about you just under-estimating them?
Someone was always talking ''simple'' to me until they understood that I'm an educated person that have a good ''general culture'' and that I use simple words for a very simple reason... it's not my mother language , so it's hard to use an elaborated vocabulary like I would in my mother language.
Maybe your parents know a lot more than you think but just don't feel like having to use ''big'' words to impress people?
Maybe they are used to use simple words with you because they had to ''talk down'' with you when you were a kid and they just kept that bad habit.
Ah I hate that I have a large vocabulary and I use it but people can't comprehend what I am telling them. On of my friends said I use to many big words and I seem sort of posh but I am not. But then again head does not read.
I do so feel embaressed using "big" words. My friends would sometimes stare put me if they didn't comprehend the word I used so I quit doing that.
hahahahha ... i know what you mean.. you're probably 20ish right now... time will change things. I used to be like that..lol... now i know im not alone!
