Is it normal to take my daughter to the caribbean for vacation?
I got divorced three years ago. My daughter, who is 14 (almost 15) lives with her Mom during the school year but with me during the summer. We usually go on vacation somewhere - two years ago we did Disney World, last year we did Gatlinburg. This year she wanted to go to the beach. I said instead of just doing Florida, why not try the Caribbean. She loved the idea. My sister, on the other hand, thinks the Caribbean is a "romantic" destination and thinks it's weird for a man to take his teenage daughter there. I assured her that while there are some resorts that cater to couples, I found us a nice all purpose resort that caters to all ages. My sister also thinks my daughter is too old to share a room; I say this is nonsense. We'll each have our own bed and can change in the bathroom, just like we did the last two years. She calmed down a little, but then went online and read reviews of the resort I picked. A lot of were from couples who said it was romantic, but there were some from families too. She was also horrified to learn the resort does allow women to go -gasp- topless on the beach if they choose. I assured her my daughter will be keeping her top on at all times. She's also concerned that's it all inclusive (including booze) and I do like to have a cocktail or two from time to time, especially when I'm on vacation. I mean it though when I say one or two though, I do not get drunk around my kid and even if I did I'm not going to forget I'm her father and she's my daughter. So anyway, who's the crazy one here? By the way, I ran all this by my ex and she's totally fine with it and thinks my sister is an uptight nutjob.
