I know you said you only use pads, but you should seriously consider using a tampon.

If you go swimming with just a pad, it'll get mushy and gross and fall apart.

If you go swimming unprotected, you *could* attract sharks or other fish, plus it might be embarrassing for you to be swimming with a cloud of blood around you.

Use a tampon, please. Start with a slimmer kind if you've never used one before, most come with instructions if you don't know how they work.

It's normal to swim while on your period, but you can't really swim with pads. It will just fall apart. You said you have a heavy flow so going without a pad is not an option. The olny option I see is using a tampon.

If you swim with other people you should probably use a tampon..

DO NOT swim unless u wear a tampon, cup, ect. I know u probably hear that the water keeps the blood from coming out but that isn't always the case b/c it builds up after awhile and WILL especially if ur cycle is real heavy. When it does the water around u will turn red and it will be REAL embarrasing. Good luck w/those tampons 2 b/c a lot of women bleed on 1 side of it and/or just around it and it doesn't really absrorb the liquid and prevent leackage like it should. Ur best bet is 2 wear tampons a couple of days 2 get used to them then try to put one of those Instead Cups in (which WILL prevent leakage). Its also best to start by trying "slimfit" tampons if u r a virgin b/c they will be easier to insert. I used HATE it when my cycle came on when I was at the beach or fixin to go 2 a swimming party. IT WAS ENOUGH 2 MAKE ME WANT 2 GET MY WOMB CUT OUT!

Why not if it's in the sea? In a swimming pool would be another story. Unless there are health considerations I'm not aware of as a dude lol.

      • Sharks hate the taste of human blood because it is full of pollutants due to our unnatural diets and chemical intake. They usually only attack people upon sight due to mistaking them for seals, that's why they don't "eat" humans, they just mangle them and spit them out.

Well, they would probably smell the blood and take a bite to taste test. I wouldn't be down for swiming in the ocean with aunt Flo especially without wearing tampons. I wish the OP would have responded to my question about tampons. :(

          • They no taste test, they no sophisticated.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you that it's still not a good idea.

Your only option would be to use a tampon. Wearing a pad would be very obvious. The water would cause it to break or become detached from your suit. Really I don't think you should do it at all because your blood would spread and attract sea predators like sharks.

I think it's normal to swim even if you're on your period and you don't use tampon.

Caution: if you are going to wear tampons do not wear them for long periods of time as you can develop Toxic Shock Syndrome.

TSS is pretty rare unless you are keeping tampons in for more than 8 hours at a time. That said, if the tampon even lasts that long without being almost completely used, the absorbency is too high. They should last about 2-3 hours, maybe 4, before you have to change them.
