Is it normal to suddenly have suicidal thoughts?

Earlier i was waiting for a train and as it was arriving, i had a sudden strong urge to jump in front of it. I am happy with my life, and i have never thought of ending it before. is this normal?

Yeah that happens like me when I see a train arriving I ask myself what would happen if you threw yourself or an object infront of it? Or when I am in a building like a 4 floor like what would happen if I jump and how would it feel or what would happen if you threw someone over the rails? Hehe just curious I would say normal.

i have to disagree with IDontAskMuch because we dont know the whole story. like how old you are. if you are a teenager it could just be hormones messing with you either giving you these thoughts of jumpin in front of trains OR your hormones may be giving you a false sense of happiness, you could be extremely depressed and your brain is trying to push that to the back of your mind and what you had there, is a window into the real you. if you are an adult then it is still normal, look at your job and your life, are you REALLY happy with it? if you are, then you must look again, perhaps you do like your job but its also a very stressful one, you could just chalk it all up to hormones or stress or you could see a professional its up to you. but to answer your question, yes it is normal.

I would say this is not normal if you are truly happy in yourself. These are thoughts of someone who would be depressed and want to escape the pain and upset they feel inside. I'd look deeper into your mind if I was you and ask yourself am I really happy??!!
