Is it normal to suck your thumb well past your childhood?

It is not proven that thumb sucking is related to any type of serious problems. Most times it starts in the womb as a comfort mechanism. Even though it helps us to feel comfort at the end of a long hard day what is wrong with doing it if there are no harmful effects and it does not harm anyone else like say, smoking or getting drunk. Thumb sucking is nothing to be ashamed of. Getting drunka nd falling off a barstool is or blowing second hand smoke into our face is.

Yes its normal, a lot of people think tht it isn't cuz adults that do it are often ashamed and hide it. There is a website devoted completely to adult thumbsuckers with info. and even pics of celebs such as madonna, posh spice and andrea corr who are all thumbsuckers. Btw, i'm a 23 yr. old thumbsucker and it really dosen't bother me, my bf knows and so do all my friends.

Ahahahahaha! Well look at it this way: You can either suck your finger more and enjoy it, or decide that it fucks your game up and stop doing it immediately. Anyway, its nothing too abnormal if you ask me, just do whatever feels right and screw the normality factor because we all have different opinions, oh Ill give you normal.. why not =P

Just because celebrities do it and there's a website dedicated to it does not make it normal or healthy. There's something looming deep in that head of yours. That's some serious anxiety.

I still suck my thumb. I have the same sort of "cravings" as u! Omg i just cant stop. When i wake up, my thumb it in my mouth! I donnt know why or if its normal. Thank you so much for putting this question up. :)

Hm.. I read somewhere that there's something about having something in your mouth that triggers some type of pleasure.. xp

That's why kids often ended up sucking on their thumbs or pacifiers. It relaxes them.

So, I guess it's not all that odd that someone older would do that.

wow, 18 huh? well i stopped before i entered middle school and i though that was embarrassing.
BUT, at least on national TV, there is a MMA fighter that admitted to sucking his thumb up to now, and he's well over 18! i dont remember his name or what episode it was but it was on Ultimate Fighter U.S. vs the U.K. They even show footage of him doing so ( i thought it was pretty cute xD )

Thumb-Sucking is one of those habits that I think you should grow out of before the age of 5. Hence, I have to vote for this as 'Abnormal'.
