Is it normal to subvocalize your thoughts?

first of all to people who don't know the meaning: subvocalizing is to activate your vocal system without making a sound (moving lips, tunge and vocal cords). this normally happens when trying to read silently (to many people)

now to my story: I have this habit of subvocalizing my thoughts while thinking. again I'm not making a sound. but it gets embaressing when the lips start moving when in alone-around-people situations like in the mall or the street. people who know me since I was child say I did that even back then.

is this normal?
how can I stop this?

I do something like this but it's more deep within my throught. Kind of like I'm "breathing" my thoughts as I have them. It's weird and sometime I wonder if all I'm doing is hearing myslef talk in my throat instead of actually thinking in my head. Haha, trippy!
