Is it normal to stumble upon a convenient contest?

I see it on TV all the time. The characters need $500 or a new freezer or whatnot and it just so happens that there's a local contest going on with precisely what they need as the prize.

    I wish that would happen to someone I knew. Then I would know my true calling in life: peripheral supporting cast member to a fictional character.
