Is it normal to still sleep with a nightlight at 18?

i slept with a nightlight from birth till the age of 15 and managed to teach myself to sleep without it but a year passed and i began to sleep with it on again, till now. i turned 18 a month ago. i'm scared shitless of the paranormal and i think i hear things when the the light is off. is it weird?

Hmm... I'm actually more afraid of having a small amount of light, as opposed to complete darkness. I think it's because, with little light, I still see some things, but brain tricks me, thinking they are other things.

    I'm 22. When I'm alone I sleep with a lamp turned on.

I really don't fancy sleeping in darkness when I'm with someone either, but I feel safe enough to be calm so for their sake I accept complete darkness.

Even though it creeps me the fuck out because when I wake up at night I want to INSTANTLY be able to see and check my surroundings.

I usually leave the shutters/blinds of my window open. So there's always a little moonlight in the room. This could be a more mature alternative to the nightlight.

    ...Unless you are a werewolf.

I turned 18 recently and I need a source of light when I sleep too! Who cares honestly...I don't find it weird. I like the scented ones sometimes, or just a really calming blue light. It's sort of soothing for me.

Normal. As of light I have been sleeping with the lights on. Lights go off in the morning. I do this mainly because I get paranoid about paranormal stuff and I have no one to sleep with me as a means of comfort and protection.

It's normal, I like to sleep with my desktop monitor on; serves the same function as a nightlight. I am scared of Slenderman and other things that go bump in the night, so I feel very uncomfortable trying to sleep in the dark.

It's okay. I'm 18, and I still sleep with the light on sometimes, although I find it a bit difficult.
I'm not afraid to admit that I'm still kinda scared of the dark and weird noises from outside.

Sometimes I will keep the light turned off,
but my computer screen turned on to provide some light,
I guess you could say it's sorta my own nightlight.

It's a phobia. Not too common, but also nothing special.

This is likely more common than it appears, as people feel embarrased to talk about it, possibly feeling that it's childish, but it's nothing to feel ashamed of. My mother can't sleep in complete darkness, I won't be so rude as to reveal her age, but rest assured she's over eighteen!

  • It's not unheard of, but certainly not normal.

All the night light does is illuminate you to whatever is gonna get you. You're so much safer in the dark, unless they have night vision goggles that is.
