Is it normal to still have acne and oily skin at 26?

i've had acne since i was 12. i'm about to turn 26, and i still get acne. i've been able to control it more or less as i get older, but my skin seems to only get oiler. just 2-3 hours after showering, my face/scalp is covered in oil again. so, is all this normal? :(

I've posted this elsewhere on iin, but rather than send you hunting for it, I just copied & pasted:

If you're having problems with oily hair &/or dandruff/dry scalp, try diluting your shampoo with water, condition just the ends & avoid washing your hair more than every other day.
I've started doing this & guess what; no more oily hair or dry scalp.
You may experience a transitional period where your scalp is so used to excreting excess sebum that it continues giving extra oil for a week or so until it realizes it doesn't have to anymore.

    (end of old post)

That was about 2.5 months ago & I've continued diluting my shampoo & the current ratio is something like; 40% actual shampoo, 10% conditioner, 20% baby hair/body wash, 25% added water, 5% baking soda.
All of this in one bottle, I shake it up right before using & only wash my hair with it when it feels oily (which has gone from everyday -soon after I've just washed it-, to just once every three days.)
In between washings, I just rinse my hair & scalp with really warm water everyday in the shower.

As for my face, I do the oil cleansing method as needed (once every 1-2 weeks) & in between, just water.
If my face needs exfoliating, I'll use warm water & an abrasive cloth/shower gloves/whatever & gently wash my face that way.
If my face feels like it needs more exfoliation than what the last sentence provides, the next time I do the o.c.m., I put a small amount of baking soda in my palm with the oil, wash as normal, keep rinsing until I can't feel the baking soda on my face anymore or taste it (the saltiness) when I lick my lips, & then rub about 2 drops of olive oil & 1 drop of tea-tree oil into my face & leave it.

I shower everyday & wash my body with baby hair/body wash. I don't use any actual soap, astringents or moisturizers & my skin is never oily nor is it dry & flaky & I may experience a blemish something like once every 2-3 weeks, in which case I blot tee-tree oil on it everyday -a couple times a day- until it's no longer visible. This takes no more than three days.

I have acne too. I go to a dermatologist. My acne isn't gone yet (I'm 19), but with proper skin care it doesn't get as bad as it could be.

I guess you should just wait it out. Or, you could also consider consulting another dermatologist for your problem.

    • Do people still call you "pepperoni pizza face" or is there some insult they have found to undermine your self esteem and overall feeling of self worth?

They never called me out on my acne. I guess that's a positive.

Get a mild antibiotic from your doctor for the acne.

Maybe it's because of your diet?

asked my doctor that, and she said that's a myth. i recently went vegetarian, but haven't noticed a difference yet.

    Read this:
    http://www.niams.nih.gov/Health_Info/Acne/acne_ff.asp
Specifically, the part where it said, "An estimated 80 percent of all people between the ages of 11 and 30 have acne outbreaks at some point. Some people in their forties and fifties still get acne."

    So yes, it is normal.

This is a common problem among basement dwellers, so you shouldn't feel ashamed. It can be easily cured by exposure to sunlight and loss of virginity.

Douche. Just because this guy has acne you assume he's a loser? Then what does that make you? You spend your days trolling people on the internet.
