Is it normal to still be scared of the dark?

I've been scared of the dark for as long as I can remember. When I've told people they've laughed as it's seen as really childish and irrational. But everytime I'm alone in a dark room, I panic. I KNOW there is nothing there, but I scare myself by running through all the possibilities of what COULD be there.
Anyone else feel the same?

One day a friend i went walking along this dirt road and beside this road was a grave yard with Jewish war hero's and we told eachother scary stories and i kept sayhing fuck ghosts whoever trys to hurt me, and blah blah blah. the same night i went to sleep and do you know when your only uncomfortable or hear something you wake up? well i just opened by eyes and saw a black figure standing right beside my bed. i thought my mind was playing tricks on me so i turned over and looked at the wall. and it was on the fcking wall.. i got so scared i grabbed my curtain to let the street lights shine through and i walked to my light switch with my eyes closed because i didnt want to see it. and i slept with my light on for 2 weeks straight.

^ agreed :-) It's not the dark you're scared of, it's what you can't see, so it's really a fear of the unknown :-) not the dark

I am still sometimes scared of dark, but actually only in places where there just might be someone else. If I'm outside at night, I usually try to walk in the dark. Somehow, I am then not scared at all, since it feels like I'm that "unknown person in the dark" :D
