Is it normal to still be depressed while taking anti depressants?

Ive been taking them for almost a year and I'm not sure I'm happy... But the pills have made my mind a lot easier to deal with. I use to get so lost in thoughts, the world wouldn't seem real. But, when I stop taking my meds I get horrible anxiety...

Sounds to me like they're working for you. Im in the same situation...Its important to remember, though, that meds can help you see things without the gloomy curtain depression seems to drape over everything, but it doesn't solve problems in your life. Try to figure out if maybe what's preventing you from becoming completely happy is something in your life... Maybe the meds are doing their job, but what you also need is out of a bad relationship or job, or into a new hobby or living arrangement...? It could also just be that you need your meds upped or need a different kind of antidepressant. But I also agree with the others that getting a psychiatrist might help. hope this helps :)

Side effects of many anti-depressants include becoming more depressed. You should talk to your doctor.

I am going through this right now.I was taking my meds for a year and now I am having problems.I started to feel sad again. It was like the old me was coming back.I am weening off of them.I am trying to decide if I should start different pills or just stop taking meds all together.I have tried 3 different meds didn't work.If you want to try different meds go for it.I would ween off the ones your on first.I know how it is.I hope you find the right meds or make the right decision for yourself.Talking to your doctor would be a good idea too.

You should ask your doctor about that. Sometimes anti depressents can act in reverse when your not as dipressed or worse if you have a type of dissorder like bipolar. Be carful. If your worried get a second or third opinion from other doctors about this.

  • I'm on antidepressants and have been for the past 3 years now and whilst I am not in any way as bad as I was, I can still become morose or unhappy randomly.

I would talk to your doctor and see if he can arrange some cognitive therapy sessions which are really helpful sometimes. I know they taught me how to look at things in a whole new way. Good luck! :D

Maybe you're not on the right med. Talk to the dr.

You need to be seeing a therapist along with the medication. You should probably talk to your doctor about switching to a different antidepressant that works best for you. Everyone is different so some medications don't work as well as others.
