Is it normal to steal if something is outrageously priced?

Like a small shaker of cardamom they want to sell for $12.99 and you pretend to scan it at self-checkout?

People do that shit all the time. Mostly it goes unnoticed.

The problem with petty theft is that you build your confidence and the problem grows, eventually taking on a life of it's own.

Even if you were to be caught ripping of something cheap, nothing would likely happen. But typically when people get caught is when they make a habit of ripping off shit, especially expensive items.

When I was 11, one time I wanted a couple extra quarters to go play stupid-ass videos games. I snuck into the change jar. No big deal but I got away with it. Next time, just a couple more. It eventually became a habit and I got caught red-handed. I got my ass beat and grounded that day after school. I said, "fuck stealing" after that.

Yep, you get confident, careless, and THAT is when you get caught.

So honestly, best to not develop the habit to begin with.

You're risking a criminal record that'll follow you around for the rest of your life, for $13.

Not knowing what this was, I looked it up. It's an expensive common spice, second only to saffron.

Saffron is expensive because it's labor intensive. It needs to be hand cultivated and each delicate stem needs to be hand plucked so as not to bruise.

This product, while not as delicate, is also labor intensive, thus expensive.

It sounds like it's priced fairly. If you disagree, then you've found a market for which you can become fabulously wealthy, delivering a product people want for less.

    If you can't do that.

PAY THE FUCKING $13 DOLLARS THIEF!!!

No.. you're talking crazy. If you're going to risk losing your hand, let it be for saffron.

The way I see it is, if you don't need that item to survive, then you're a thief with an unwarranted sense of entitlement.

Maseratis have pretty outrageous price tags as well. Is one of those also on your five-finger-discount shopping list?

Little bottles of spices are always the most expensive way of buying them. If cardamom is an essential component of your lifestyle, consider buying it in bulk online. Store the bag tightly sealed in a cool, dark place and refill your filched bottle when necessary.

This reminded me of Link's Awakening, where if you steal from the shop, you are called a thief by everyone you meet for the rest of the game. There's no way to take it back.

How'd you like a criminal record for the rest of your life, thief?

Some things have high prices for a reason, including cardamom. It only grows well in certain places and has to be hand cultivated. So, scarcity, demand, processing costs and shipping cost from distant growing fields pump up the cost. Theft of a shop owners inventory is wrong.

I mean, people tend to steal things they can't afford or don't want to use their money on, so that's 'normal'.

But I don't understand. You're not entitled to have the product?

I shoplift regularly but only from corporations. Not anything crazy. If they leave the melons outside I'm going to liberate them.

That must be why do many times the cops are called to walmart. Because idiots think it's ok to steal shit. But hey, we ALL PAY FOR IT. When prices get jacked up because so many people like to fuckin steal shit. And hey, if you feel u would rather go to jail, get fingerprinted, have your mugshot in the police roster, and in yea, go to court, pay fines, etc. If that's worth stealing a $13.00 item, well fuck it, go for it and I hope you get popped for theft. I may not be caught this time, but you will get brave or stupid or bith. You will try and do again. But something bigger, and again and again. Sooner or later you will get caught. I get a kick out of people caught stealing because they have to have them smokes. Lmao, lol. Get a felony record because they are jonesing so bad. Fuck them quit if it's that bad. But hey your choice. And I won't say good luck.

If you're not bothered by stealing from a company who seems to squeeze their customers , then does it matter really if we care? I mean , i don't know how we would evaluate their profit margins so quickly with no data but i assume this is insanely overpriced .

I am not one to steal from others but in the case of multi billion dollar companies who intentionally market junk to make money , i am not really emotionally invested into the loss of their items .

I am a balance of good and evil on this earth i suppose and i simply follow MY philosophies which , include stealing over priced items if i feel like it both for mental exercise of not getting caught and because i might not feel like paying the price .

Now one person says criminal record , this only matters if you are a slave to the government , if you work for yourself , well , this won't mean much and no ones going to jail over a juice squirt bottle , not even with my record .

You'd be wise if you were familiar with the laws in the jurisdictions where you exercise your personal philosophy about possessions.

There are guys serving life sentences in California because they were caught trying to steal a slice of pizza, a pair of socks, and a pair of baby shoes.
