Is it normal to steal from my college roommate after the semester?

When I was in college I accidentally packed up one of my college roommate's power strips and one of his expensive textbooks when I was gathering my things to go home at the end of the spring semester. (FYI, I was scheduled to have a different roommate the next school year.) When I got home I realized that I had taken items from my roommate and figured I would give them back at the start of the next year. However, I spoke with some friends who convinced me to keep the items because my roommate had probably stolen some of my things as well, so it would even out, although I don't remember missing any of my belongings.

At the start of the next semester I sold the textbook I had accidentally taken from my former roommate and used it to purchase beer for myself.

Is it normal to accidentally take or even intentionally steal from one's college roommate at the end of the spring semester?

Depends whether you were friends. If not, then fuck it.

Normal if it was an accident, though I can not justify you not making an attempt to return it though.

You sound like a shithead. I would have given the books back to my old roommate. If there was no possible way to contact them try and ship it. If all else failed I might have sold it. School books for college cost a lot of money. Its really fucked up you would steal something like that and not even attempt to return it.

It is normal but wrong to not return it. Not returning it and selling it for beer is what most people would do so normal, yes, but mean.
